It's not bad, it's tougher mentally than anything and especially if you have been a couch potato. It's better to go in thinking it's really going to be super hard. Very little sleep, active all day...that's the bottom line. You learn the basics of working in a combat environment. They take you through the "common tasks" so that you know basic first aid, how to fire the M-16, how to throw a grenade, biological warfare stuff (wait till you go to the gas chamber hehe). It's all about qualifying in all these different areas so that the Army can say you are "trained." With each seperate area you are a GO or a NO GO, and they will make you a GO before you move on and are actually a soldier. The drill sergeants will first break you down, then build you back up by the end of the training cycle. Essentially they are getting rid of your radical concern for your own well-being, and replacing it with a radical concern for your unit, and your Army. The drill sergeants are HILARIOUS, so just have fun with it, don't let them scare you...too much. And DON'T call them SIR. They will tell you why. Thanks for serving, you're a good man (or women).
It's fine to email me if you want Tandem1776_2000@yahoo.com or IM at the same if you want to talk.

It all depends on your physical and mental health on whether it is hard or not. If you are physically fit, you will be fine with the PT portion. As long as you are willing to take orders from a DI you should be fine with the mental portion. Remember that joining the army is like any other job, with the exception that this job is 24/7. The Army is all about teamwork. Most of the training will involve trusting your buddies. Prepare for some long runs and long burnout PT sessions.
After Basic Training you will go to AIT, it is a little more relaxed there but you will still have the long runs and burnout PT sessions. If you get a chance try and participate in the Bataan Memorial Death March if you are in the Arizona area(Ft Huachuca). I am sure you'll enjoy the Army.

In my experience of the US Army, no school or training is designed to fail you. If it was designed to fail, then the numbers would be a lot lower and we don't want that. The best thing is to remember that everything you will do in Basic Training, your Drill Sergeant has done also. It will be frustrating and hard. You will always be wrong, because the Army needs to train into your brain that it is a team effort. Not one person. And YES! you can make it. One of my "battle buddies" in Basic Training was a 5'1" female that weighed 105lbs. She was the first one on every obstacle course and she never gave up. In the end every grueling second is worth it and more.

It's not that bad. My grandmother passed away 2 days after I left and they wouldn't let me go home, so I wasn't all there the first couple of weeks, but it got better. You will wake up at 5:30 every morning(sometimes earlier!). You'll do P.T.(Physical Training) Mondays thru Saturday. The Gas Chamber's great, especially if you have a cold or and respritory problem's(clear em right up!). You'll learn to sight and shoot an M-16A2, the SAW, and the claymore mines. There are 2 different obstacle courses. One you do yourself and one were you have to learn to work with others. All in all it's a good experience.

It is hard and a difficult challenge that can be overcome. Plus it is easy compared to the Marines basic training.

Its very physically hard, early mornings, short sleep time, the food is always good though. It is also is mentally grueling. They are trying to teach you to work with people you never met and become a real unit, a team. If your not a team player it will be very hard. You need to empty your mind and relearn.

it's not hard it's just annoying. i went to ft Jackson though, and everyone says its the easiest one. the thing that annoyed me most was my puerto rican roomates and only getting like 3 hours of sleep at night. other than that you should do fine. everyone talks it up but it's not hard at all. if a 120 pound blonde girl can do it, so can you.

I've seen some people go in and make it that weren't a tenth of the athlete I am... and though I'm sure it's tough for everyone.. I'm sure it's harder for some.. but they will get you up to par no matter who you are.
