No. Imagine what this would do to youngsters who witness the spectacle. Envision what effects this would have on a new generations. How thousands of people would start their day by witnessing such an horrible, archaic scene... I wonder how a person watches another person's last breath and then sleeps peacefully at night. How a person goes to the scene at 7.00 a.m.(or whatever) and then looks for the best spot to watch the public hanging ceremony and then this same person comes home and utters kind and loving words to the family? It is beyond me and beyond every principle of humanity and mankind.

No, there's no way I would ever watch a public execution.
[Note: The following is tongue-firmly-in-cheek] But if our nation is to be barbaric enough as to have capital punishment, why not make them public? I'm sure there's enough sick people out there who would buy tickets or watch it on pay-per-view. (I'm sure they could find an appropriate commercial sponsor, too: Kentucky Fried Chicken?) The money could go to pay for improvements to our prison system and to bolster public defenders' offices so that poor folks can have access to competent legal representation.

To right I would...........
Give me the application form before hand and I would pull the leaver as well.
Just think how many people would be alive today if they had not been killed by someone who had been released from serving his time for a 'capital offence' since hanging had been abolished. People these days leave the dock with a smile on their faces after being sentenced to life with a recomendation of 15-25 years.......how many of those would laugh if the Judge put his little scrap of black cloth on his head and read those immortal words ???

Right now the death penalty isn't much of a deterrent. It takes several years from the time of conviction to the time of execution.
And the method of execution is nice compaired to the lifestyle of these offenders.
It's like the distance between the crime to punishment to so long that we don't associate the crime/punishment anymore. I fully believe in the appeal process.
If we start making hangins public, maybe the death penalty might become more of a deterrent.

Personally I would be indifferant whether I watch or not, I do think that young offenders who are persistant offenders or career criminals should go and see what could be them next, never know it might be a deterrant, because the justice system now certainly isnt !

I believe that if there was ever a public vote on hanging I would vote yes, and for that reason I think that if you're prepared to accept it, you should be prepared to witness it.
