Dear Sir
A few suggestions,
1) There is a reserve chute, try it.... but if your main chute isn't opening then what are the chances you packed your reserve right?
2) Enjoy the scenery......... for a little while at least... The view will slowly get worse.
3) Depending on what altitude you started at you might have enough time to read the label on your chute and write a note letting the ground crew know your opinion of the company... Make sure this is put somewhere save.
4) You are probably reaching 500mph, enjoy this moment (you probably will never get another chance).
5) You should have time.... think of something really interesting (like doing 1,000 back flips). When your done write a note letting the ground crew know that you should be placed in the Guinness Book of Records as the first person to do all this while diving to almost certain death.
6) Or if you want to simply take your mind off your problems (remember they are only temporary now, that should make you a little happier) try saying the alphabet backwards. This should occupy your mind, and you won't reach the end before you are releaved of your problems. (occupying your mind should NOT take much, since you were smart enough to jump out of a perfectly good airplane and rely on a small sheet of fabric instead)
7) Now if all else failes and you are scared of the pain, make sure you turn upside down and that way you wont have to worry.
I realize that the length of this letter will mean you probably have lost your chance to do ANY of the ideas I list above. C'est la vie (or at least for now).
Best regards,
Mike
P.S. May you bounce well

Wanted to add......
There is one more possibility.
If you are standing on the ground your chute wont open properly. Just repack it.
:)

you need to open your jacket or your shirt, and let it kind of hang off of your like bat wings, put your arms out like bird and use them to guide you, you should be able you see a body of water over your right shoulder. that is a lake..what you have to do is move your body using your feet as a ruder and your arms to lower your decent angle so you come toward the water, at a very low angle and you need to act like you are an airplane coming in for a landing, with the exception of when you get close to the water, put yourself into the tightest ball you can tucking your head in as tight as you can using your arms to hold your head up against your chest, and at this time start taking in very deep breaths and prepare for some PAIN because the water will be like hitting the actually ground, but if you do this correctly, you will survive this with little broken bones
OH I almost forgot, you need to open your legs and arms and stay level to the ground to try to SLOW yourself down as much as you can before you get near the water, then go into the above directions...
good luck

Depending, of course, on the manufacturer; generally on the right side front of the harness, stitched in place with an x or y pattern. I like mikes answers better, but thats probably what you were looking for.

Lean over and blow as hard as you can toward the ground to slow your descent. If that doesn't do the trick, open your arms out like a T, and try to glide to a safe landing.

Enjoy the trip, remember it isn't the fall that kills you, it is the sudden stop at the end!

See if there is a haystack, tree or pile of matresses(best) in your path, and head for it!
