My daughter is going to be 10 in Feb. The hair on her legs is blond but very thick and long. She has been self consious about her hairy legs for about a year now. People, including family members, make comments about them. I was considering helping her to use Nair instead of shaving but am concerned that it will just make it worse if we dont keep up with it. I dont remember what age I started shaving at. For moms and dads with older kids... what age age did you start letting your daughters shave? Do you think I should start helping her use Nair instead.. or just wait till she is older?

I guess the answer was obvious since everyone is saying go ahead and let her. Its just hard for me to believe she is already at that age :(

Mine started at around that age. We started with Nair but decided against it because of the chemicals. Shaving takes practice but is effective. I know some moms that had their daughters legs waxed too. It's a bit painful but reduces the need for constant hair removal and makes leg hair thinner.

My mom makes me use Nair, but I think shaving with a razor is a much faster way. Nair also is time consuming, but my mom thinks it is a safer way to shave. During the winter I do not shave as much because I wear long pants most of the time. It really depends on if you and you daughter feel comfortable with shaving.

Check with your doctor before using Nair or a similar product. They may not be healthy for a child that age. As far as, when to start hair-removal, whether shaving or not, is a personal decision. Your daughter's feelings have to be considered. If she wants or feels that she needs to, then I think you should teach her.

i started when i was 11-12 years old and for your daughter i don't think it would be a problem to start shaving a little early. when she gets near teenage years she is going to be self-consious about alot more, but this you can take care of right now and she won't have to worry about it and feel better.
i have always used razors so i don't know how well nair works but a friend of mine used it and she didn't like it.
hope this helps you out. :)

when i first started using things to get rid of the ape gene i used nair for a while, then i stopped because i just got tired of it, sometimes it's such a pain. i started shaving when i was around 12.
but, if people are being idiots and starting to comment about it i would let her start shaving, and if she thinks she needs it. if it will boost her self confidence a little then i say let her.
10 can be around the time for her to have her period. i remember getting the ape gene and my boobs started to grow about 2 years before i got mine, and i got mine when i was 12. it could be that she's starting puberty and she'll be getting her period soon.

I didn't get to start shaving until I started my period. That was at 12 years old. I think you should tell your family members to mind their own business. If you daughter can handle shaving and you feel comfortable letting her then I suggest you show her how. After that it should be left up to her. If she is really that worried about it she will keep up on it. Make it her responsibility. Good luck

nair is a chemical and burns on sensitive skin or skin thats never been shaved so i would say if your consious about it and are wondering if you ashould let her shave there is nothing wrong with letting her shave as long as you teach her how to use the rasor if your worried about her cutting her self take a rasor use it your self a few times this will dull the blade a bit and then show her how to do it i see nothing wrong with letting her shave i doubt any one will say any thing to you about it and i think it will help her self esteem a bit if thats bugging her good luck

dont wait.teasing from other children can be incredibly cruel.by the time others have commented, its time to remove it.just a generation or 2 ago, girls began shaving their legs at about 13 or 14.today,girls are reaching puberty earlier, and generally need to shave at 10 or 11.many girls even have periods by that age,it used to be 13 !!!!!an electric razor avoids injuries.

I would use Nair at this age. It won't thicken the growth or make it darker...and tell her that the sooner she starts shaving the longer she will have to do it! I didn't start till I was in the 8th grade, but I din't have blonde hair either! My daughter has been shaving since she was nine (thanks to her dad) and she hates every bit of it...wishes she wouldn't have started so early!
