It's a continuation of the first Gulf War. 02Aug1990. Saddam invaded Kuwait. That war was brought to a "Cease-Fire" agreement between the U.N. and Saddam. Saddam did not honor that agreement and the U.N. members (namely France, Germany and Russia) were too busy accepting bribes from Saddam in the Food For Oil program to do anything about it. I know I will catch a lot of flack for this. But it was useless to try and continue diplomacy when those involved were too corrupt to care. So, the U.S. went back to Iraq in March 2003. The problem then became one of meddling outside influences -- read Iran and Syria. There's a lot of "Sectarian" violence going on there. The shiites Vs the sunnis. The shiites are backed by the Iranians who would like nothing more than to see the U.S. lead coalition forces leave Iraq. Keep an eye on Syria and Iran. They are behind most of the troubles in the Middle East, be it in Lebanon, Israel (with the palestinians) and elsewhere.

Literally the Iraq War Started March 1, 2003. However, the actual war if you think about it, started on September 11, 2001. When the world trade centers were attacked, and the airplane crashed in PA, and into the pentagon, this was a warning that a war was soon to follow.

Being an Veteran of this war, the first official war with Iraq started back in 1991-92 when Sadam Hussein ordered him military to invade Kuwait. This was known as "Operation Desert Storm", the Gulf war. The war ended in less then a year when Iraqi forces retreated back into to Iraq, surrendered (which many of their ground forces did) or died trying to defend Iraq.

The democrat plan is to get the troops out today. That is according to what at least 42% of the American public voted for. Never mind that it would destabilize the middle east, disrupt the supply of oil, sky rocket the price of gas exponentially, cause economic disaster across the globe and provide a safe haven for terrorist to launch attacks against us. The American public is so wise aren't they?
