If you have had it for 12 years and are afraid to have surgery what might happen?

I have it as well. I chose not to have surgery when I first was injured, bringing on the spinal stenosis. You'll either get stiff with less flexibility in your back, more pain or pain running down your leg. Have you looked into the arthroscopic back surgeries where you go home the next morning and just go to physical therapy? They don't mess with the spinal cord, but they can clean up the stenosis for you.

There's no reason not to have it. I've had surgery on my spine eight times. I have eight cadaver bones, four of my own bones in my spine. 32 screws, 32 pieces of wire. My lower spine was fused with red sea coral and the rest cadaver bone and mine. I let more go than I should have therefore I have a lot of nerve damage, I have problems due to my fault.
I've had wonderful surgeons and health personal that stood by me all the way. Had I not had all that I may be in a wheel chair today, I'd guess that's where your headed eventually, down the line. Think about it, your not going to heal. Bless you, you have a long road ahead of you.

I'm sure it depends on your age and the ability of your body to heal afterwards. One of my relatives has it but they're 80 and inelgible for surgery. You'll have to see a doctor - probably and orthopaedist. Good Luck!
