There are several Dachshund rescues if you are, indeed, looking to adopt: www.MWDR.rg www.Rainshelter.org , www.AlmostHomeRescue.org, and www.DRNA.org That said, if you are looking to really BUY a Dachshund, Google 'Dachshund Club of America" (or go to www.akc.org & click the link in the Hound Group) & ask to be referred to members. Keep in mind that hobby breeders don't always have pups (neither do the rescues): you may have to be on a waiting list...but a hobby breeder or a rescue will mentor you along. Not so a commercial breeder.

Hello there. I am from Houston myself, and I own four Dachshunds. We got ours out of the Houston Chronicle. And there is also a breeder in Brenham, Texas by the last name of Weezypoppy who has very very nice dachshunds and will let you look at them all and take your pick. There is also a dachshund rescue in Houston called, Dachshund rescue of Houston. There website is below in the source field. Hope that I helped!

Try looking on www.petfinder.com
Here is a national rescue:
http://www.almosthomerescue.org/
If you are trying to get the dog FOR Christmas you may run into problems. Some rescue groups halt adoptions for the 2 weeks before Christmas to save a dog from the stress of being re-homed compounded by the chaos of Christmas.
You might be able to find a dog, get photos and arrange to get it on Dec 26.

Check into dachshund res crews on the web. I warn you first never give a dog as a gift. You don't how the recipient will receive it and the holidays are all full busy time. Plus when get a unwanted dog you might be saving its life.

Have you searched petfinder or a rescue group? My bichon rescue group that I foster for flys dogs across the nation. I'm sure any rescue would as well. Of course it can cost around $200 to ship them plus the adoption fee.
Good luck!
