If I want to go to work I make 2 lefts, 1 right, 1 left, 1 right, 1 more left and 2 rights. That is if I want to go to work.

If I don't know of any other way to get there did I choose this way to work?

What if I am destined to get in an accident if I go this way and I go this way anyway. Did I choose to get in the accident?

Where is the free will in this?

Is it when I accepted the job?

I understand if I knew I would be in the accident when I accepted the job and took it anyway, but how is it a decision when I do what is most logical?

i think every thing has a "ripple" affect...always two or more possible out comes depending on the choices you make...are they right or wrong...couldn't tell ya...

none of the less...we still have free will to choose...or not...it is still our choice...
"if you choose not too decide you still have made a choice"

You have free will to take a more roundabout way to work. You have free will to ring up and say that you got lost or that you have ben involved in an accident. That's if you don't really want to go to work, which is your own choice. Nobody chooses to get into an accident. They might not care enough to take reasonable precautions to reduce the chance of an accident. But an accident is an accident. Unforseen. You use the term destiny. We cannot choose our destiny. Some people follow their destiny. Others take the option to make the worst possible decisions. That's their choice. But strangely, it's also their destiny. I hope I have made myself clear. I'm not a theologian.

Free will is not making a left turn, a dog can choose to make a left turn, a dog is happy or sad or can attack at any moment. Dogs do not have free will because they cannot choose the malice behind the attack. Humans have the gift of free will, the freedom to choose love or reject it. The freedom to kill another just because or refrain from killing even if the urge to kill is there. The events in our lives were written down before our birth. And in these events our Creator is in control. All things, good or bad, will be worked out for the good of those who love Him and are called according to His purpose. I can chose to hate or to love. I cannot choose the rock that will or will not fall on my head the next time I step out the door. I accept that I am not in control and leave that up to the one who loves me. I choose love, may you know the fulleness of God's love

"What if I am destined to get in an accident if I go this way and I go this way anyway. Did I choose to get in the accident?"

First of all, no one is "destined" to do anything. If we were, free will wouldn't exist. Makes sense doesn't it?

Literally, you didn't CHOOSE to get in the accident, but you chose to do things like "going this way to get to work" that LEAD to the accident. So then, TECHNICALLY, you chose to get in that accident.

But then again, you could argue on both sides, I believe there's free will because right now I'm CHOOSING to answer you question, no one is forcing me to. BUT, you can't choose to be born or to die.

Bad analogy. You could get a map and choose an alternate route. However I know what you are getting at. According to xtian mythology there is free will that is god given...yet god already knows what you will choose and therefore created you in the way that he did...therefore free will is an illusion.

There are other religions that do follow logic and reason and free will is reality. Leave the xtians to themselves. They will never see past the pulpit and it is a slowly dying religion anyways. Live in your own choices, take responsibility for them, make them conciously and you will be free.

'Nuff said.

You don't make a decision to have a car wreck. Free will only applies to win you are presented with a decision ... you consciously choose to perform certain actions ... you have a choice as to what to do and you make it. Your car wreck and your route to work are not analogies of free will or lack thereof. It applies to deciding to do the right thing or the wrong thing.

You made the decision to not find or make another way to get there. You chose to go to work that day. You chose to live where you live so that this is the only way you can get to work. You chose not to kill yourself the night before.

Also, sometimes the free will of others affects you. God gave you free will from him, not everyone else. So, it was someone else's decision to make that your route to work and not allow for another path, etc.

You choose every second of your life. You choose to continue breathing, you choose you walk, you choose to get up, you choose to work, you choose not to, you cannot live or die with out choice. Death is often based on choices. Did you choose to drive too fast, not wear your seat belt, make the left turn, leave early, late, on time?

You see, I hope, how ridiculous this whole 'free will' nonsense is. If you have to have total knowledge of everything that will happen to you when you make any particular decision in order to have free will, then it is obvious that free will is something you will never have. Only God has total knowledge of circumstances and outcomes. Mere humans cannot hope to understand the ultimate results of just about anything they do. This is why you must trust God instead of yourself.
