what are you buying your 5 year old son for x-mas?
my son wants everything he sees on t.v.
i am really having a hard time getting him something he will like.
he has soo many cars, that he doesn't need anymore.
he's got computer software for children.
he's got leap frog, pixtar, other educational toys..
i need ideas from others as to what your getting your kids for x-mas.
i could get him clothes, shoes etc.. but that will be no fun for him when he opens it.
thank you!

i have two 5 year old boys (twins)
i am getting them lego and breo (wooden trains) things like that are brilliant toys, get them stuff they can make and will incorage their creative side. things they can build, break, take apart, these all incorage their growth and devlopment.
dont get the plastic crap on the telly, they will be board of it in 5 mins.
i am also getting for all my kids a giant trampolean in the garden, 5 year olds will love it!

I don't have a 5-year-old son, but I DO have a 5-year-old cousin.
I'm getting him an easel and lots of paper and fingerpaints, and a brush just in case he'd rather use that. He's a great artist!
For his birthday a couple weeks ago I got him Lincoln Logs. He loved them.
You say your son won't have fun opening clothes, but what if you give him a t-shirt and some fabric paint? He can decorate it with his name and pictures later in the day, after he's tired from playing with new toys. He'd probably be proud to wear it, too!
How about some Dr. Seuss books? Kids always like those.
My nephew who's a little younger (4) LOVES Thomas the Tank Engine. Does your son like Thomas? If so, there's a pop-up Thomas playhouse that costs $35. Not sure if that's within your budget but it's an idea. It folds up really small and goes under his bed when he's done playing. We got it from a company called "The Lighter Side". They have a website where you can order it.
My cousin also loves those Nerf guns that shoot the soft balls. You might not want that, but if you're willing to pick up the little balls, I've seen them for around $10.
All little boys like Radio Flyer red wagons.
My nephew has specifically asked for walkie-talkies. On the low end of price they're around $10, too.
Those are some ideas. I hope they get you started!

I was exactally there 2 years ago. I got him a robot kit and we did it together, that was a great gift. I got him a robosapien at 6 he loves that too. Robots, electric kits and such have become his favorite toy.
He also loves shell shocker the remote control "car" that makes a ball and rolls. I was considering Gears Gears Gears, and the gear robots this year. I decided they may be too simple for the 7year old but would have been perfect at 5.
Other great splurge toys would be either a digital camera (perfect for him to use on the new baby too), or the fisher price star station.

How about a personalized book? Kids love to hear their name in the storyline. Go to this website http://www.tlc-expressions.com They have lots of cute titles like Spider-Man, Batman, Scooby-Doo, Sesame Street, Superman and so many more. I also think they may have a Baby Book for when your baby is born. Check it out, and good luck!

Are you sure your mother in law already bought it? You said she never gets what she said she will. If you are sure she got it though, then i suggest you get him something else. Ask him what else he would like. Or if that specific gift he wanted has an additional item to go with it, you can get that. Whats the point of him having the same gift twice.

My 5 year old is getting a dvd player for his room and the movie Ice Age 2, a pinball machine (for little kids), magnetics, small ball set with three different types of balls, vacuum cleaner...etc. He is our foster child and really doesn't have much. I know the vacuum is a little young for him...but this is what he wanted Santa to bring him...he used to have one, but it got left behind at another foster home! :)
