I have used it for years! I know how it works! But now something's going wrong. I type a line, I press enter twice, then I type another line. Then I click on the first line and click on "Centre" - all lines are centred. Then I click on one of the other lines and click on left-justified. All lines get left-justified. I've now discovered that if I click "undo" after this it does what it should have done all along which is to apply the formatting only to the paragraph that I am in. Why is it doing this now? Any clues, anybody?

Hi, Just my approach if it happended to me:

Find 'normal.dot'. This is the default template used when word starts a new document. Has this been corrupted or changed recently for example some formatting applied and saved inadvertently?

(Something weird happen to my normal.dot and I was able to get a colleague to send me his and it cured the problem. But you must remember once you Save as... a document the original normal.dot forms part of that document, so loading an old document where normal.dot was corrpt will seem as though all the problems have returned)

I would also check using 'hidden characters' On the toolbar the button looks like a back-to-front 'P'.

Clicking on this shows all the formatting and may help you see what is causing the problem.

You could also copy your work to a new document if you are sure your normal.dot is okay, but use Edit, paste special, 'unformatted' text.

Finally you could check that you dont have a virus or a macro running in background?? set the security to high so word asks you before it allows any macros to run.

Anyway. Hope this helps.

If you want a certain line adjusted and not others you have to select (highlight) that certain section.

Move the pointer to the left of the line until it changes to a right-pointing arrow, and then click.

Use Help in Microsoft word and search for "select text".

I think using the page break or paragraph break will work for it, go to insert and page break. and also check paragraph properties by right clicking in it ! good luck
