Dont worry about it! Its not going to happen in your life time..
The ice has been breaking off for years, long before you and I were born.. thats what iceburgs are made of, and what sunk the Titanic over a hundered years ago...
And, it will continue after our life time too... The Earth goes in cycles.. It maybe that its time for a warm cycle, and it will be time again for a cold cycle...(remember back in the 60s? We thought it was going to be an ice age!)...
Sure, the oceans may rise some, but, you wont have to worry about it taking all of florida or other parts...and if it does, then I get a river in my back yard and I get to go fishing every day !! Wonderful!!!
I wish you well..

I'm much more worried about the Earth going back into an ice age. Earth is now more than 10,000 years into an inter-glacial warm period. Past inter-glacial warm periods have lasted a few thousand years, so we're due for ice age temperatures any time now. Warmer temperatures are alot less scary than having half of Asia, Europe and North America covered with ice.
But with that said, people have skewed visions of what to worry about. People have adapted to changing climate before and they'll do it again, whether the change is natural or man-made.

Most of Arctic's Near-Surface Permafrost May Thaw by 2100
December 19, 2005
BOULDER—Global warming may decimate the top 10 feet (3 meters) or more of perennially frozen soil across the Northern Hemisphere, altering ecosystems as well as damaging buildings and roads across Canada, Alaska, and Russia. New simulations from the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) show that over half of the area covered by this topmost layer of permafrost could thaw by 2050 and as much as 90 percent by 2100. Scientists expect the thawing to increase runoff to the Arctic Ocean and release vast amounts of carbon into the atmosphere.

It will take along time and we will not be around to see it. Our worry should be for our friends, relatives and their heirs. It cannot be stopped as long as the large industrial nations do not stop contaminating the atmosphere.
We are already experiencing the effects by changes in temperatures and weather. They have to stop their thirst for money and be more sensible with the rest of us. They all have to be follow the Kyoto Protocol to reduce the world's contamination. Also they have to be more watchful for other means of preventing unnecessary contamination like forest fires and similar catastrophes. Great efforts are being done to use more the environment friendly sources of energy like sun power, wind power, water, ethanol, gasohol and bio diesel but still there is a need for a greater effort and forget about the fossil fuels as soon as possible. This is in contradiction for them as they will have to abandon all what has been built for the mining and processing of the the petroleum.

I'm sorry you are so upset. You need to educate yourself about the subject. It will be easy to find articles saying it is happening and that we are the cause. However, most of those articles are not scientific. I don't think that science at this point knows what the human influence is. Much of what is easy to find is junk science. May I suggest that you read "State of Fear" by Michael Crichton. The book is fiction, but in the back of it are many scientific references that you can check out. Don't rely on a program like Oprah for anything except entertainment

Global warming freaks me out too. Trust me if I could stop it I would in a heartbeat. What really bugs me is the fact that some people don't want to do anything because they think effects won't take place until after they're lifetime, so they do nothing about it. Just watch out about driving cars and littering, little things can help.

You are not severe are you? Where might they drain it to? Do you suppose there's a colossal stopper within the backside of the sea? you do not suppose we'd like the water on this planet? The tides and oceans have an primary function to play on our earth. What might occur to the entire ocean lifestyles? But possibly that's a well suggestion. Then we would stand around the globe aholding fingers with our brothers and sisters from different lands and sing Kum Ba Yah. Yeah, that feels like a plan.

Actually, that thing about thing about Florida being covered isn't necessarily true. Why? Because we would all be DEAD long before then. The ocean temperature rising would kill the phytoplankton before that much ice melts. Once the phytoplankton are dead, we all suffocate.
But, of course, that just makes this more scary. But the important thing to do isn't to freak out, it's to do something about it. You could use renewable energy, or any number of things.

I know how you feel. I think about it too and try to make my twin 10-year-old sons aware of it. I am sad for the polar bears. I was watching a program about them last night and it was heartbreaking. What can we do?
