What does this really mean? When after almost an 8 year relationship and all you hear the whole time is how much in love this person and they will always be in love with you and that you will "always be together no matter what" Then, they say they have changed thier mind and that is only what they felt at that time but now they are no longer in love. How do you explain this?

The only way that I could explain this is to recount my own experience. I was in love with this guy for nearly two years. But as the years went by we started to evolve, become more mature, change our ideals and standards. He went into one direction, and I into another. He even moved away to pursue his dreams. At the point where we broke up, he and I both agreed that we were in love before, but now we just simply love each other.

When you're in love with somebody, you want to spend the rest of your life with that person. You want to be around him or her. When you're not in love, you just want that person to be happy, even if it isn't with you. If after 8 years your partner is no longer "in love with you" then it simply means that he or she evolved and has different interests. Don't take it as an assault on you. You've changed too, and maybe now it's time to move on. Sure, you planned your life around this person, but he/she wants you to be happy, and you should pursue that first and foremost. Good luck!

In the back of thier mind.....you still hold a special place and there are feelings.
Same situation for me.
Five years great.....then she says that's the way she used to feel, now she it grown up and doesn't feel that way about me.......three years later, she went on a campaign to get me back....telling everyone how much she really loved me and how she messed up.........Go figure.

I think that they didn't know what love was to begin with. They were just going through the motions because they were afraid of being alone. They may have fell out of love. Either way, you can get better.
