Every dog is the best! You just have to find the one that "fits" your lifestyle.

Personally, my favorite is the Norwegian Elkhound. The breed is so versatile and I truly believe that mine could do anything if she wanted to (hmm, perhaps she could be president when she gets older...). They are very loyal, very adorable, and very friendly. They like to snuggle and play. Though mine likes to hog the bed. Luckily, she leaves me some covers. Occasionally. They are just really sweet dogs and I wish I had room to have more of them!

Oh.. there's just too many to ever pick one. I love Great Danes for home companions - IF you have large floor space and a fat wallet. They're funny and big and gentle and are awesome with people and can be the same with other dogs if trained properly.
My second favorite are Cane Corsos, they are excellent protectors and gentle and they love kids, and for their size they do not eat you out of house and home, but they love exercising.
Third favorite are probably Rottweilers, they just want to please their owner and they are very loyal, playful, protective, and amazing dogs if socialized and all that.
I love big dogs though... mainly because that's what I'm used to, and they're great protectors. BUT there ARE some small dogs out there that are also great protectors -- even the "West Highland White Terrier," those tiny white ones. They're awesome too.
Yeah, Mutts will always be awesome too. Because they're TWO dogs+ in one, which means they'll have a mixed up personality and they're pretty awesome. Yeahhhh.

I believe that there is no "best dog breed" because every person is different. That's like asking what the best ice cream flavor is. It's far too subjective. I like Golden Retrievers because I am an active person and like the loyalty of them. I also like Great Pyrenees because they are so gentle. Some like Dobermans because of their loyalty and guard skills. Some like [insert dog breed here] because of [insert trait here].

You just have to do research to find out what dog will best suit you and your lifestyle. A golden puppy wouldn't be great for an elderly couple, but a poodle would drive me crazy! It's person - not breed - dependant as to which would be the best.

Good luck! :)

I think the best dog breed is really dependent on the perspective owner and what he/se/they are looking for.

Personally the best dog breed is the Boston Terriers. Why? I grew up with big dogs that I could play with including wrestling, but now I tend to live in apartments or townhomes with not alot of room outdoors for a big dog to run around. Boston Terriers are the best of both - small dog with big dog attitude and personality. Bostons love to wrestle and play, and they also love to cuddle. With mine I can come home, we play catch with the raquetball (even indoors against the wall when cold), then later he curls up under the blanket next to me while watching TV.

I don't think he's asking for an "answer" as much as to see other people's opinions.

I think I have the best dog breed , he's a German Shepherd/Yellow Lab mix. They're easy to train and protective like German Shepherds and friendly and good natured like Labs. This is the most loving dog I have ever had/known.

no one wanted him because he was this ugly puff of blue-gray hair, but after awhile he started to change colors and now he's this really pretty golden color. when I took him back they didn't believe it was the same dog (they had to check his chip). I want to clone him.

I think dalmatians (i have 2) are fantastic dogs, although a little bit on the daft side. They are loyal, loving dogs and nothing can beat a dalmatian smile.
and Border collies (i have 1) hard working devoted dogs, will play with a ball all day long. Very easy to train, intelligent - love them to bits

I love any kind of dog, but on a personal level, I really love Border Collies! That intense stare, you can just see the wheels turning, the quick way they learn new things, the loving and affectionate nature and that persistence to play! It's an endless time with a tennis ball and my BC!

FOR ME: I love Rhodesian Ridgebacks. They are large, so there is lots of them to snuggle with. They are protective, so I feel safer with one sleeping at my feet. They are intelligent, so I really respect my dog because she learned the useful commands quickly and refused to learn the undignified ones. They are aloof with strangers but devoted to their families, so I can indulge my silly enjoyment in feeling worshipped by a creature that doesn't worship just ANYone. They are lazy indoors, so I can be a couch potato when I feel like it. They are energetic outdoors, so I can take her to the park and have a blast when I feel like it.

I wish all owners would do their homework first and really research. Then all of them could end up with a dog they love as much as I love mine. :)

My Favorite Dog would have to be a border collie or a border collie mix becuz they have a lot of energy and when they r puppies r called a little ball of lightning and energy but they r seriously cute and nice good with livestock and children and they r very easy to train
