I have been taking hair supplements for the past 3 years and here is what I have found.
ProCaps labs makes a great supplement called "Hair Skin and Nails" formula, here is the link for that
http://www.procapslabs.com/pcl/pages/pro...
This is in capsule form and easy to swallow. This company, ProCaps labs is also extremely reputable and carries pure and effective products.
I took GNC's Nourishair for four months, and supplemented it with extra Biotin tablets daily due to its low Biotin content. I took 2500 micrograms extra Biotin with the GNC pills.
The Procaps hair vites have 2500 micrograms of Biotin in them, and don't really require extra Biotin be taken, but I do take an additional 2500 micrograms of Biotin for a daily total of 5000 micrograms of Biotin.
My hair is growing in thick and dark and quite quickly. My hair used to be very slow growing, but all of these supplements have really made a difference.
The only way to really change the health of your hair is by taking supplements that work internally on the follicle where hair is made, any shampoos or oils or other topically applied things do nothing to change hair's structure, that can only happen with systemically provided support, which means supplements that you take internally.. Keep in mind, regardless of how many or how much you take of any supplement, hair is never going to grow at a "Jack and the beanstalk" type of rate, the most you can hope for is to improve the strength and health of each hair follicle and to see an incremental increase in the rate of its growth

I've heard of wild growth oil helping many people but haven't tried it myself. I have been growing out my hair recently( i am african american as well) after I cut it really short by mistake. My hair was about 3 inches long in July and now the front is past the tip of my nose the sides are below my jawline and the back is at my collar bone. I didnt do anything special though. I have left it in braids redoing it myself every 2 wks to a month. When my hair is out i wash and deep condition it every week. Also take a multi vitamin drink tons of water to moisturise your hair and eat healthy. Check out this site it has alot of great info to grow african american hair long. I never knew black people could have waist length hair until visiting that site.

Start taking Vitamin E pills, and A good Calcium pill. These together will nourish and protect your hair, causing it to grow. Hair is just like nails, it needs nourishment to grow. So calcium does the growing part, while Vitamin E gives it that gorgeous shine.

im african american and my hair is at the middle of my back. Its all natural, no chemicals, and i straiten it after i wash and blow dry. i use Moisture Max, its a great product that stops hair from breaking, while im blow drying. I press it to straiten, and wash it once or twice a week. i use olive oil to keep it from breaking between washes. when im in the shower, ill wash my hair, condition it, then wash my body and let the conditioner sit for however long it takes.
