Does the bible not say 'judge not lest ye be judged'? So why do conservative 'christians' judge homosexuals?

Is that not going against their own beliefs?

I'm not homosexual by the way, I just believe that Christians should welcome all. And does not the bible say 'take the plank out of your own eye before attempting to take the spec from your brother's eye' ?

Because they think the Bible condemns homosexuality. They're wrong, though.

I see someone watched Studio 60 a few weeks ago.

Christians should not 'judge' others for just the reason you cite.

However, there is a difference between judging someone and saying that you do not agree with or approve of their lifestyle choices. Being non-judgemental doesn't mean you water down your ethical beliefs to avoid judging. It means, quite properly, that our primary focus should be on our own lives and whether they conform to a godly standard. My guess is if a homosexual wants to know the biblical stand on that lifestyle, they will find the answers, it's pretty clear.

It should be noted that the great commission the last orders given by Jesus to his followers was to go out into the world and preach the good news. The Good News is this: Christ died for your sins. Not: don't be a drunk, or don't lie, or don't dishonour your parents, or even don't have sex with someone who isn't your spouse. Those things are all in the Bible but clearly they are secondary. The primary tenet of Christianity is the development of a personal relationship with God; the ethics that accompany that relationship come later.

On the flip side, it should be noted that homosexuals don't just want tolerance they want approval for their lifestyle. That is logically impossible for a person who believes in the Bible as written to do. The furthest they can get is: you have free will, God loves you, I love you, and I hope you will enter into a relationship with God. They cannot honestly say God made you a homosexual or God approves of you being a homosexual. An honest reading of the Bible doesn't allow that option, as convenient as it might be.

As Marty, Servant, and several others here have demonstrated, the Christians who are engaging in this will vehemently deny that it's "judging." They'll say they're just stating "facts," or quoting scripture, or trying to witness to gay people, or protecting others from the "gay agenda," or any of a hundred other excuses for treating gay people like trash, but oh no, we're not judging!! Only God can judge!! We're just being good Christians, and DISCERNING, or whatever.

According to the dictionary, to JUDGE = to form an opinion about through careful weighing of evidence and testing of premises.

If that's the case, then maybe these Christians are right when they say they do not judge homosexual people...because they do not seem to have weighed the evidence (that homosexuality is not a moral failing but a characteristic formed before birth), and any opinions they have formed do not appear to have been carefully tested.

Not all Christians condemn or look down on gay people. Jesus didn't.

I hate this whole judgment thing. Anyone that says that they don't or haven't passed judgment on someone is a liar. We all pass judgment on people and some everyday. I have a friend that is an adulterer. She said that she knows that it's against the Bible and that it is wrong but she chooses to do wrong. Now I have to decide for myself if I want this person to remain a close friend or not. She goes against my beliefs, and I feel that if I hang out with her and her current lover I am condoning her actions. Whats good for me in this situation is what it is all about. Now if I had or did commit adultery I really couldn't say anything, but I haven't so I have judged her to not be my friend because of her actions which are not good for me. Have I passed judgment on her whether or not she is going to Heaven or hell? No. Have I passed judgment on her whether or not she has committed a sin? No. The only judgment that I have passed on her is whether or not I want her as a friend based on her actions which I don't agree with. I judge homosexuals as people that I don't care to hang around with. Are they going to Heaven or hell? I don't know thats not up to me, but I have to judge others on what I believe is right or wrong for me.

Christians don't judge homosexuals. They just try to warned them about the consequences of their lifestyle. But I also think that most people are into judging, because they feel better and get distracted from their own problems and issues. It's a self-defense mechanism.

Im a christian and this concerns me on two levels. One when Christians actually judge homosexuals the christians are in the wrong flat out. We should not judge anyone except ourselves. Some people use there faith as a way to express their predjuses. The second thing that concerns me is I hope that you dont interpret Christians defending their doctrine (i.e. the gay marriage debate) as judging, Because as Jew and Muslims have a right to be angry and defend their what they believe.

You forgot the following verse (*gasp* what a surprise!!):

"For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, 'Let me take the speck out of your eye,' when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye."

It's clear that he's speaking of judging hypocritically, not judging in general.

Not only that, but there is a huge difference between judging someone's actions and judging their motives. We are told not to judge people's hearts, but to tell them when what they are doing is against scripture, and homosexuality is clearly condemned in scripture.

Rom 1:7
"And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet."

Gee, what a coincidence. The Bible just HAPPENED to predict the result of homosexuality: AIDS. Imagine that.

Just for the record, I don't hate gays, I just find their behavior disgusting.

SOME HOW I BELIEVE THAT IS THE ONLY SIN THE WORLD COMMITTS. THIS WORLD IS FILLED WITH PEOPLE THAT JUDGES ALL THE TIME. THAT WHY THERE IS A DIFFERENT IN THE WAY WE SEE PEOPLE. IT HAVE A LOT TO DO WITH WHY SOME PEOPLE HAVE AND SOME DON'T. SO WHEN WE TALK ABOUT PEOPLE IT DOESN'T MATTER IF THEY ARE BLACK , WHITE OR GAY, RICH OR POOR, YOU ARE JUDGING WHEN NEGATIVE WORDS COMES OUT OF YOUR MOUTH. CONSERVATIVE "CHRISTIANS" BELIEVES IN WHAT THE BIBLE SAYS AND SO DO I. IT IS NOT EXCEPTED BY GOD AND THEY DON'T EXCEPT IT AS WELL. THEY ARE NOT JUDGING THEY ARE EVANGELIST, THE MESSENGER, DON'T SHOT THEM.

I can only answer for myself...
I do not judge homosexuals....I don't condone their sinful actions. Just the same as I don't condone someone lying to me or I don't condone someone killing someone else.
I am a sinner also and I need to ask for forgiveness every day, so I am not judging but I will not be complacent about accepting others sinful actions.
Have a very wonderful Christmas Season!

The Bible does say that homosexual behavior is a sin but you are right, Christians should not judge. For one thing it is certainly not the only sin mentioned in the Bible. All sin separates us from God. True Christianity is not about behavior, it is about having a relationship with God the Father through His Son, Jesus Christ. In that relationship God is perfectly capable of letting a person know what He what His will for that person's life is. While I believe that sooner or later Father will choose to deal with roots of sexual sin in a person's life, it may not be first thing.

I myself deal with sin in my life. All Christians do. The biggest problem with "judgement" is when we allow ourselves to think we are not sinners because we don't commit those "big bad sins" other people commit.

I am sorry that those who claim to be believers in Jesus Christ have failed you. I am sorry we have not been able to communicate the love of God to you. Please do not let those of us who struggle with our own sin hinder you from seeking out the truth of the Good News of Jesus Christ.

I also admit to you that there are those who claim to be Christians who aren't and that there are some who are simply hypocrites. I am sorry. Please forgive us

I don't think it's judging. It's called spotting a sin. If you kill someone and say its not wrong, pretty sure someone will try and correct you and say yea its wrong. They're not judging they're trying to point out to you that what you have done is considered a sin according to the Bible. Homosexuality is the same thing.

Calling out a sin is not judging. Judging would be one who sits back and comments can't believe they would do that, and why are the doing that and I wouldn't do that. That's judging. Telling someone they are sinning is not. i.e. Dude you know killing is a sin right?
