For those who are going to say "It says in the Bible not to get tattoos" I'll save you the trouble of searching, here's the verse
Leviticus 19:28 " 'Do not cut your bodies for the dead or put tattoo marks on yourselves. I am the LORD. "

Ok fine, plain and simple. But in the same chapter there is another law
19:27 " 'Do not cut the hair at the sides of your head or clip off the edges of your beard"
or
19:19 " 'Keep my decrees.
" 'Do not mate different kinds of animals.
" 'Do not plant your field with two kinds of seed.
" 'Do not wear clothing woven of two kinds of material.
Check your labels! Chances are you're wearing a blend of some kind, and therefore are defying God's law! So why pick on those with tattoos and not those who cut their beards, or wear cotton/polyester blends?
The atheists will say "Well that's why blah blah blah" but I want to hear the Christian perspective.

I personaly don't mind tatoos but this is what the bible says. The Old Testament law commanded the Israelites, “Do not cut your bodies for the dead or put tattoo marks on yourselves. I am the LORD” (Leviticus 19:28). So, even though believers today are not under the Old Testament law (Romans 10:4; Galatians 3:23-25; Ephesians 2:15), the fact that there was a command against tattoos should cause us to question. The New Testament does not say anything about whether a believer should or should not get a tattoo.

The most important thind is that you accept christ in to your life!

In relation to tattoos and body piercings, a good test is to determine whether we can honestly, in good conscience, ask God to bless and use the particular activity for His own good purposes. "Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God" (1 Corinthians 10:31). The Bible does not command against tattoos or body piercings, but it also does not give us any reason to believe God would have us get tattoos or body piercings.

Another issue to consider is modesty. The Bible instructs us to dress modestly (1 Timothy 2:9). One aspect of dressing modestly is making sure everything that should be covered by clothing is adequately covered. However, the essential meaning of modesty is not drawing attention to yourself. People who dress modestly dress in such a way that they do not draw attention to themselves. Tattoos and body piercings most definitely draw attention. In this sense, tattoos and body piercings are not modest.

An important Scriptural principle on issues that the Bible does not specifically address is that if there is room for doubt as to whether it pleases God, then it is best to not engage in that activity. "For whatsoever is not of faith is sin" (Romans 14:23). We need to remember that our bodies, as well as our souls, have been redeemed and belong to God. Although 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 does not directly apply to tattoos or body piercings, it does give us a principle, "What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price; therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's." This great truth should have a real bearing on what we do and where we go with our bodies. If our bodies belong to God, we should make sure we have His clear "permission" before we "mark it up" with tattoos or body piercings.

I am a Christian with 2 tattoos and I think it all has to do with perspective. I follow the New testament rules and I also did not really come to God until after I had my tattoos done. So in my case, it would be more scarring and painful to hav ethem removed now than it did to have them put on. And I think God knows me well enough to know I am not going to put anything satanic in origin on my body or anything blatantly offensive.

Some of the Old Testament admonitions involved the worship of false gods. Tattoos were one manner in which heathen tribes did that and in some places still do.

A tattoo is a tattoo and nothing more as long as there is no religious worship of another god involved.

I know Christians who have religious tattoos that they feel honors God, and I believe that is just fine. I particularly like the crown of thorns tattoed around the upper arm as a reminder that He wore the crown of thorns as our King and Savior.

God Bless,

Sue

Honestly, I don't have any problem with tatoos. If the good lord was really that hung up on body marks we'd all be going to hell.

I don't really spend anytime thinking about this kind of trivia. The choice is the individuals. I think of my body as something pretty special and so do all I can to take good care of it and not endanger it. But, really life is full of alot more important concerns.

It's just a Tattoo

I think tattoos are cool, as long as they're done tastefully, just like with anything else. Of course this all points back to my whole 'Christian Anarchy' angle, so I might just be krazy anyway..... :)

Use the Old Testament as your paradigm of learning. It's chocked full of sadism, slavery, & incest. Read something relevent like Dawkins.
