Nope not the right thing. Because if you weren't being so nosey in the first place he would have never set you up. Which means you were playing games with him from the beginning and never trusted him enough not to trust yourself. When somebody starts playing games like you have just done the one playing the games has a guilty conscious. So you probably just lost a good guy for a guilty conscious of yours. Even now you think he is lieing because you don't want to be in that relationship if you didn't want to be in that relationship you should have told him the truth instead of playing games like you've just done. You look bad in this situation not him. So no its not justified

Snooping is a bad habit (one of mine too, so I can't criticize). Just remember when you snoop, you have to be prepared that you 1) might find something and 2) will have to keep it quiet if you do.
To answer your question.... yes, you did the right thing.
But if you find that this situation develops into a trend, then you might want to consider that you are a bit over suspicious and may want to extend a bit more trust.

Yes, if you had this kind of evidence, it was reasonable to think that he is cheating, and cheating is always a legitimate excuse for ending the relationship.
-who keeps condoms in his shoe? hopefully these weren't used condoms... ewwww.
-have you snooped in his stuff before? That is bad. If you don't respect his privacy, then you're sending a message that you don't trust him... and he will eventually live up to that expectation of untrustworthiness. In your next relationship, try to create an atmosphere of mutual trust and respect.
