I hate to dissagree but A/C cant hurt furniture. I manage and build alot of rental. Many apartments we put over sized A/C units in because people don't have to leave them on all day . They come home crank them up and get cool fast. It saves energy. In 15 years no one has ever complained about any damage from A/C units.

An AC can damage furniture if the unit is not sized properly to the dwelling, if the unit is too big then it can cause the house to condensate, if it is too small it will run all the time, and that can't be good either. But if your referring to AC as Central Air, then forced heat can damage furniture by drying it out.
