A war which is fought for the right to live and prosper without oppression or dictatorship. Unions of the people often would make up the defence, and fight for their exsistance and livelihood.
In the case of independence, a nation or country would have to fight for it, or die as a nation or country.
Your assessment is not far off at all.

Hi,

I would only change the wording of one thing, insurgents are those who come into the country from another country to do the fighting.

Rather than insurgents, do you not feel " Freedom Fighters" would fit better.

A war of Independence is a war fought by the freedom fighters of Algeria to preserve there freedom and to be independent from the French occupational forces therefore it is a " War of Independence", fought by Algerian Freedom Fighters.

Good question,

Yes it is a perpective thing. If Americans look at it its their war of independence. Then there is India and a lot of other nations.Yes it might need to be redefined. But thats why the U.S calls it the "American revolution".Or perhaps there is the "Indian Independence".I don't think people have ever used the term war of independence.

It's a matter of perspective, and who you identify with.

What's the difference, historically, between a revolution and a civil war? Who wins.
