If you are not happy then you have to end it but i am not so sure that there is a way that you can do it that would make your work environment awkward. Just try to be as nice as possible when you do it. Good luck to you

Why is leaving your job not an option? Anyway you do this is going to cause a major change in the work environment. This is why you should have not gone there in the first place. I would seek new employement before you even tell him. It's one thing to break up with someone and move on, but when you see them everyday and work in the same office it can only create big problems.

This is why it's a bad idea to date co-workers, but it's a hundred times worse when you made the Einstein-like move of selecting your boss. There is no way to end it that can guarantee that your work environment won't be awkward. If you are lucky, he could be an enlightened individual who won't make life hard on you. However, I would prepare for the worst and pray for the best. Get the resume ready.

I understand your problem. At first just tell him you are busy to go out for the night. Use this time to look for an new job. Remember and know that leaving a job is always an option. Or look for an department switch. After the switch then break up.

Is there another department that you can move to? If not, you need to sit him down and tell him the reasons for ending it. He may not like it and may try to make your life a living hell at work, but that's something that you should have thought about before you started going out with him. Even if you don't want to find another job, you may find that that is your only option.

Wow it sounds like you are in a tough position...and I know a lot about this. I was involved with my boss. It first started of innocent, I didnt even think it was goin to go anywhere. She was awesome and we enjoyed time with each other, and what was really great, is that our relationship didnt affect our time in the office...when I realized that we should just be friends, I was honest with her, and if you say this guy is really good to you, then he should be understanding as well. Let him know that you want to be friends and that things were great, its just you don't want to be in a relationship right now. I'm sure he will understand.

awkward its going to get... But if you speak to him honestly then it should be OK. If worst comes to worst and he tries to fire him, just pull the sexual harassment on him... It works every time... Though does everyone know you guys were going together? Then that might not work...
Good luck though... He does not have the right to fire you with out a legitimate reason...

You cannot end it without causing an incredibly awkward work environment. Don't screw where you eat...it also turns into a nasty mess.

Wow! I've been there, and to be honest with you , i would just start looking in the want ads. Honstley, even it you do it, there are gonna be hard feelings, and they might not just be his.
Be honest with yourself, are you gonna feel jealous if you see him with another person?
I did it, and as soon as I started seeing someone else, my boss totally lost it! He was all over me!

you don't! you're right you should've never gotten involved in this mess, the only thing i can suggest is seeking another job, or cheat on him to be happy. I'm not a big fan of cheating but you're in a tough situation.
