No, per the government, the employer must have your permission to check your credit report. However, if you are concerned that your credit report has been accessed, you should check the small print on any application that you have filled out for that company.

No. No one is supposed to check your report without your written consent. However, as part of most employment background checks you usually sign a credit history release and sometimes when you sign an employment contract or new employee paperwork, you do sign paperwork that allows your employers to randomly pull your credit or background report. This is especially true if you work at a financial institution or hold a position where you deal with confidential material.

No, they can't check it without permission. But most likely, your application for employment granted them permission. Almost all companies have that language in there, whether or not they ever check is a different story.

Not without your permission, but on your application somewhere it probably says something like by applying, you give your permission for them to check your credit.

Legally no, but if you ok'ed for them when you applied for the job they can look and look and look. Most applications allow for a credit history, probably a driving record, some health information.
You would have to originally given them permission..Most companies ask very discreetly in the fine print on your application. Chances are you did ok a check for credit history.

When you got hired you probably signed a form allowing the company to check your credit, go to HR and talk with them and let them know its not ok.
