I read some of the answers....pagans/wiccans/druids instead of 'non-believers' and I guess I was thinking of symbology when I thought of the nativity-not a depiction of a certain religious scene.

Humm....did you know the British christian movement under the roman catholic church in and around 1300(??) AD...Blessed and sanitified stonehenge along with many other "pagan" holy sites.

There thinking was, if we cant convert the people we can bless the objects they worship under GOD and they will be saved.

So, yes I could use a Stonehenge model as it has been blessed by a bishop. But, I wont, Because I celebrate christmas in the old ways. Before christianity took it over.

But thanks. Maybe Next year.

Non-believers and nativity somehow don't go together. The nativity is the depiction of the birth of Christ. My mother (and many others) collect nativity scenes from around the world. It is amazing the diversity shown in nativity scenes.

Maybe believers in Stonehenge have their own rituals and traditions.

By non-believer, do you mean Atheist, or just non-Christian? I'm not a Christian but I have a great nativity set. It's all Native Americans and it's adorable. I can't remember where I got it but I love it and I set it up every year.

I also have a Frosty the Snowman and I don't believe in him either.

Do you believe in every figure and art depiction you own?

We don't *have* nativity scenes.
I have a tree decorated with lights and stuff in my house (symbol of the coming green rebirth of spring), we give presents to each other (just plain fun, nothing to do with the supposed 3 wise men), and we enjoy the company of family & friends.
No baby jesus, no nativity scene, no angels -- and at least I understand where this holiday came from :)

lol!

Pray tell, why do we need a nativity scene if we don't believe? We would re-create who? The birth of Darwin? I'm pretty sure he wasn't born in Stonehenge.

Why would "non-believers" have a nativity scene at all, (IF by "non-believers" you mean people who are not Christians)?

And if, say for aesthetic or other personal reasons they do, WHY would it involve Stonehenge?

This is just a wacko question.

What? No (because I'm not Christian). What I do put up every year is my Daemon Tree. It has glass bulbs covered with Daemonic sigils. It has serpent and devil head ornaments (they're so cute!), and inverse pentagrams. Oh - and we celebrate from the 21st of December to the beginning of the new year. It's not a one day thing.

Why would I want a Nativity scene?

No. I'm gonna keep the manger, but replace the baby jesus with a salted ham, then I'm gonna put sunglasses and funny hats on the 3 wise men and put a fat doob in each of their mouths.

I have a nativity scene with chimps instead of people in it. True story.
