I plan on using a Bungy cord and hook it to a harness then hook the bungy cord to the steel cable, I figure you would have to get the cable fairly tight to keep ot from sagging, I have a 1 ton set of come alongs and some turn buckles to tighten. And need to know if 1/4 inches cable will be big enough, The kids are getting older and my 40 foot water slide I made out of plywood a couple of years ago is not very usable most of the summer because our water supply is drying up. And I mented this to them about trying to make it.
Thanks

We have one in our back yard that accomodates adults, but you have to make sure the cable is tight enough not to droop and drag them on the ground. One-fourth inch cable is what we used.

Almost every playground in Europe has one, and all accommodate adults, also.

Instead of pulling the cable tight, allow it to sag somewhat and attach it higher up the trees.
The tighter you pull the horizontal cable, the less load it will take before snapping.
I talk metric in Australia so I'm trying to convert your dimensions as we speak.
I use a 2mm (1/12th of an inch) stainless steel wire strand rope stretched damn tight over a 10 metre (33 foot) span and this happily holds 40 kg(88 pounds) NOT BOUNCING. however if I slacken it off to allow around 50 cm (a bit over 1 and a half feet) sag in the middle, I can happily swing 80 kg (176 pounds) off the middle.
I reckon that a 1/4 inch (6.3 mm) stainless steel wire strand cable will happily hold an adult if it is allowed to sag by 1.5 to 2 metres (5 to 6.5 feet) in the middle.
