Depends on what you want to do with your life/career. By itself, an undergraduate degree in Philosophy doesn't get you far. But, it is a stepping-stone degree, meaning that you could go for a master's or doctorate degree in either the same subject or a more specialized field like engineering or medicine; but you'd still be responsible for meeting the entrance requirements for that higher education degree.

Having a bachelor's degree from an accredited university still puts you way beyond, in terms of job opportunities, than a person with just a high school diploma.

However, it doesn't limit your choices as far as jobs go. It still depends on what you want to do.

One very smart kid I know is currently in med school - he was a philosophy major. He wants eventually to be an ethicist - one of the doctors who decide what to do when there is a really tough decision - like, abort a baby to save the life of a mother? or, who should get a transplant heart when there is only one heart and three patients?

So, he took all the premed courses, but majored in philosophy.

I think it would be a good major for anyone who wants to wind up in a job that involves a lot of writing - like journalism, or law, or for anyone interested in international affairs, and diplomacy.
