I'm contemplating taking a job there, and the office is in downtown Sacramento, as well as apartments I have been looking into. Is anyone from there, or been there that can give some insight? Is it a nice place? Does it tailor to the younger crowd, or older? Are there good bars, restaurants, parks...things to do? Anything would help...Thank you.

Well

I guess it depends where you are comming from. If you are from LA, SF, or NY and have lived in the Cosmopolitan areas of those towns then you might be a litthe disappointed. Downtown is very cosmopolitan for the central valley. We have lots of upscale living(condos, homes etc) but it is a true mixed bag. There are state workers, high end living, bums, GLBT, and pirvate industry professionals. The restaurants are very cool. There is probably every kind of food and bar you could want in the downtown area. You won't find many chain restaurants. Ther are also lots of museums and small theatres there. A mall is in the heart of downtown and there is a train (lightrail) which can take you to different parts of town for a good price. It also goes to the University and the community college. If you are a student, its free.

I love downtown and its unique feel. There is nothing in Sacramento(or the entire central valley) that is quite like it. It feels like a mini SF.
If you have any further questions feel free to email me. I might be able to rent u an apartment too! rtmestaz at yahoo

It is an old tree lined town with a lot to do. It is an easy place to get around even without a car. They have good bus service or one can just walk. It is a mixed age group young and old. There is night life and theaters, even a IMax. They have old town along the waterfront which has lots of restaurants .

A lot of old Victorian houses and yet a number of new condos. They have a a number of parks The capital park is nice and big.

I suggest you get on to Sacramento thur Google and go to imagines you can get a good view of Sacramento for yourself. One picture is better then one could describe.

I like "Old Sacramento", very touristy, lots of restaurants and bars... I am not sure about downtown, I haven't been there in a few years. The area next to the Capital is beautiful, but I am not familiar with the "after dark" scene.

Hope this helps...

It's not as mind-numbing as a big city and it is far-less pretentious. There's still plenty of art galleries and culture (it's just not 24-7). Lots of history and some really great museums

Plenty of decent pubs, and bars that cater to everybody. As far as the overall city, the parks and walkways and river areas are terrific. And if you have kids, you can actually raise them there! (I believe kids are illegal to raise in San Francisco and Santa Barbara now days. It's cost prohibitive.)

Compared to the coast of California, Sacramento wages can often be higher and living costs are far lower. And the office girls dress well and are very attractive. You can buy any techy thing you want in town, and you can be up in the country gold panning or river rafting within 20 minutes.

Downtown and Midtown and the older parts are nice, but east of Sac State Univ. it's ugly suburban sprawl
