It's really a matter of opinion, but these are my three favorite ones.
1. Taos Ski Valley, NM - It has tons of really steep expert hike-to terrain, great snow, no crowds, cheap tickets, the best tree skiing in the country, and a really good ski school. Snowboarding is banned too, which is a nice touch.
2. Snowbird, UT - Good technical and steep terrain, about 500 annual inches of orgasmic snow, good size, lots of expert skiers. Also, it's about a half hour drive from the airport to the resort.
3. Alta, UT - Pretty much the same as Snowbird (they share a border), but with slightly easier terrain. They also ban snowboarding.
