The question of what happens after death can be confusing. The Bible is not explicitly clear on when a person will reach their final eternal destiny. The Bible tells us that after the moment of death, a person is taken to Heaven or Hell based on whether he or she had received Christ as his or her Savior. For believers, after death is to be "away from the body and at home with the Lord" (2 Corinthians 5:6-8; Philippians 1:23). For unbelievers, after death means everlasting punishment in Hell (Luke 16:22-23).

This is where it can get confusing as to what happens after death. Revelation 20:11-15 describes all those in Hell being cast into the lake of fire. Revelation chapters 21-22 describe a New Heaven and New Earth. Therefore, it seems that until the final resurrection, after death a person resides in a “temporary” Heaven and Hell. A person's eternal destiny will not change, but the precise "location" of a person's eternal destiny will change. At some point after death, believers will be sent to the New Heavens and New Earth (Revelation 21:1). At some point after death, unbelievers will be thrown into the lake of fire (Revelation 20:11-15). These are the final, eternal destinations of all people - based entirely on whether a person had trusted Jesus Christ alone for the salvation of their sins.

The dead in Christ have had their spirits already go to heaven, and only their bodies lay in the grave, as is also the deaf of the unbodly, wait to go to hell.
When Jesus comes, He will raise the dead that were his, their bodies and take them with us, His true ppl alive , we meet together in the air with Jesus and go to heaven. Bible says this all, so much more clear than I do.
So, no, when you die you go right to heaven, your spirit, only your body remains. this is why you see many Christians that are dying, are singing and so happy. a look of incredible peace overcomes them, and they can see the light and KNOW where they are going. They dont want to come back....... ask those that have been resusitated and hear thier reports. wonderful stuff.
But, if we havent died by the time Jesus comes, we then go with him in the air to Jesus, His feet dont touch the ground. It is the rapture... the catching away together in the air to meet Jesus when He comes. Pretty exciting. Just deceide which one you want , to be therte or in hell. Cuz, God doesnt choose it for us, we do, and we are either fully Gods in love and obedience, or we are fully not. The only way to understand the Bible fully is to study it and pray. The more obedient you are at what you know, the more GOd shows you. Step on Gods path today, its the only way to go for happiness......

I think the Apostle Paul explains it best in 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18

"But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning those who are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others who have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so will God bring with Him those also who sleep in Jesus. For this we say unto you by the Word of the Lord: that we who are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord, shall not precede those who are asleep. For the Lord Himself shall descend from Heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet of God; and the dead in Christ shall rise first; then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so shall we ever be with the Lord. Therefore comfort one another with these words."

there is a big debate about what could happen until the second coming...

One theory is that when people die they are judged and those who have accepted Christ die, they go to heaven with Jesus, but after the second coming everyone will be moved to a new heaven and a new earth. The rest go to Hades until the second coming where Hades tips into the lake of fire (Gehenna).

Another theory is that when people die they still go to Hades (Sheol in the Old Testament), if you have accepted Christ you go to the good side, if you have not you go to the side of torment. After the second coming, there will be a day of Judgement and those who have accepted Christ will go to the new heaven and new earth, and the rest will be dumped into the lake of fire along with Hades itself (from Revelations).

say you have a floppy disk. let's just say it weighs 8 grams. now if you fill that disk up with information, it will still weigh 8 grams. the information on that disk has no mass. time is a property of physical matter. now, suppose when a person dies, aside from any fluid loss as a direct result of dying, they will weigh the same, though their soul has left. their soul is outside the time domain.

now this is so far only conjecture, but i wouldn't be at all surprised if someone who died 1000 years ago, someone who died yesterday, and someone who gets ''raptured'' a week from tuesday, all arrive at the throne of grace seemingly in the same instant.

No...once christians die they are with Jesus in spirit. It states that the dead in Christ go into a slumber (not die). Death means permanant seperation from God. Also, when Jesus was on the cross, the theif realized who He was and repented and Jesus said "TODAY you will be with me in paradise". He didn't say when I return, he said today. When the rapture comes, our earthly bodies are 'caught' up to meet with our spiritual bodies. That is what rapture means -- caught up together. The word Rapture is not mentioned in the bible but it is a termed used in context to what is going to happen. Hope this helps?

No, no waiting:
NAS 2 Corinthians 5:6-8
6 Therefore, being always of good courage, and knowing that while we are at home in the body we are absent from the Lord --
7 for we walk by faith, not by sight --
8 we are of good courage, I say, and prefer rather to be absent from the body and to be at home with the Lord.

Not unless you are one of the chosen few...If everyone went to heaven when they died...why in the world would there be a need for the Resurrection.

I am not sure I do either but the suggestion is we will all sleep till the day of judgment so yes likely we will have to wait but we will not know we are waiting it will seem immediately after death.
