lighter blond in the past. Now my roots are in a couple inches and I was going to just dye it black for a change.

Any pointers or advice?

I bought the Revlon Colorsilk Permanent Haircolor in Black (No Ammonia) but before I use it, I thought I'd ask you all for any advice.....

Thanks!

if you are comfortable with your hair being that dark, go for it. or you could keep it blonde and get low lights. that always looks nice.

Try a medium chocolate brown, first. That way you'll know if something that drastic will suit you. Someone who is naturally dirty-blonde will probably NOT look good with stark black hair because it will "wash your skin out".

Also, Revlon Coloursilk is a drugstore product and FULL of metallic dyes that will REALLY screw up your hair! Especially over a bleach, where it'll look green and chalky. If a drugstore dye says "No Ammonia" but it's also labeled as "Permanent", there is some mistake, because there's no such thing. ALL permanent tints MUST contain ammonia in order for the tint to be permanent.

I would make an appointment TODAY with a professional to see what would look best!!

I know it's more expensive than doing it yourself but go to a hair dresser for any extreme hair color changes!!! You won't regret it! I bleached my hair on my own for a long time....and then my hair started breaking off because I wasn't timing it, I was leaving it on for too long. Trying to dye previously bleached hair darker shades like brown was no use, either - it never came out right.

And, if you bleach it now then decide to go dark, your hair could have shades of green or blue if you use a dark color or ash tone. After bleaching my hair for so long, I've found the ONLY shades I can safely do at home on my own are shades with red in them. Even then, sometimes some parts come out pink-ish.

Bleaching really effs up your hair for a long time though, and I highly recommend seeing a professional. I wish I would have!! They can do it dark for you first, and then recommend what you can do to maintain it on your own for less $$.

you'll want to flow to Sally splendor and get a hair colour stripper. demise over the black will basically make it darker, and there aren't any shampoos which will take the colour out. and do not positioned dish cleansing soap on your hair. you are able to also flow to a salon to get it stripped and re-dyed. as quickly because that's stripped, it is going to likely be an choppy brassy/gingery colour. it really is a kind of bleach or perhaps if you do it at abode or on the salon, that's nevertheless detrimental. Reddish blond is amazingly mild, so I advise getting it finished on the salon to get it closest on your organic. then you actually can enable it advance out.

That was a dilemma I was in a few months ago. I went and bought a Dark Brown instead of black. Looks great. I was a little weary of black because sometimes it can look WAY too unnatural and even a little blue. Try Dark Brown first, and then if you want it darker, go for it a few weeks later!

sometimes when you dye your hair black it will look kinda blue or grey in the light...make sure you have natural black. also once you dye it black you cant dye over that. its a big change. when i dyed mine black for the first time it was a huge shock ( i have dark brown hair) but it took some getting used to. but just make sure your sure of it, cuz its tricky to cange it. ya can get it stripped or wiat for it to grow out.

good luck! :)

Since you said shoulder length, dirty blonde hair I would wash it first. Then I would get a hair cut and then dye it. You can make yourself look like Drake Bell!!!
