lol i got mine doen when i was 16! im 19 now and have 2 more cartilage piercings. but please listen to me!
do not take her to a shop in the mall (liek claires) where they use piercing guns! those are the worst things especially for cartilage piercings. you should take her to a professional tattoo/pierce shop and get it done with a needle. my mom took me to the one in town here (and yeas she was afraid cause she is against piercings and tattoos and everything) but everyplace ive gone too thay are always really nice. so dont let their looks intimidate you!!
piercing guns (what they use at claries) only pushes the skin aside which can cause keloid which are over growths of scar tissue) and are more painful and take longer to heal. it may alos be more prone to infection
needles (they use special hllow needles) makes a clean cut through, and heal more quickly the piercing shops use a new sterilized needle everytime! they are painful. any piercing is painful though. but tell her if she wants to get it done and its okay with you then take her to a pierce shop. maybe if she isnt gettign decent grades tell her if she gets better grades they you'll take her to get hers done =) i made that bargain with my mom lol
here is a webpage for you too look at to pick out an appropriate pierce hope near you
http://wiki.bmezine.com/index.php/What_Parents_Need_To_Know_FAQ
but it is ultimatle your decison there is now appropriate age. it is you as the parent who is the deciding factor not your childs age. but please get it done professionally at a studio and not some cashire who is only "trained to aim and pull the trigger" nothing more....
i got mine done at a studip cause all of my frineds got it done at a cheap store liek claires at the mall....and ended up giving them problems so they took it out. the studios will also give you aftercare sheets and solutions. abotu se salt soaks and aftercare pierce solutions.
so i leared from my frineds not to get it done at the mall, im glad i didnt!~

Are we talking about just the cartilage in her upper ear? If so 12 almost 13 is fine. This is a simple piercing and alot of girls her age have been having it done for years now. Don't worry its not a hard piercing to take care of and she'll be fine. Say yes!

I got my cartalige pierced at 13 ...this is really a personal question you as a parent will know if your daughter is responsible and mature enough to take care of it during healing. You know her better then we do .......will she hate it in a year? Will she play with it? take all this into account and form a decision from there...id make her research it find out what it entails and all maybe then you can both make an educated decision together.

I had mine pierced years in the past and despite the fact that it did not rather HURT it used to be a unusual sensation. They mark the tongue, as to in which to pierce it at. Then they'll clamp it with a couple of hemostats. They will inform you to take a deep breath in and to exhale and while you exhale they push the significant hollowed out piercing needle by way of your tongue. I received rather hot in a while and variety of went into surprise, I walked external the store to get a few contemporary air and puked. I puked simply as soon as and as soon as I did I felt utterly exceptional. The treatment procedure is what hurts while you get your tongue pierced. It will swell up, as I'm certain you understand. It shall be rather difficult to consume till the swelling is going down and also you have got to be avid approximately retaining it blank. You do NOT WANT YOUR TONGUE TO BECOME INFECTED!!! Rinse your mouth out with Listerine quite often!! After you consume, drink (some thing except water), or smoke (should you do). Your tongue is the quickest side of your frame to heal. Actually some thing within your mouth, heals quicker than some thing else. You will have to be feeling the swelling taking place in a couple of days in a while and by the point per week passes you will have to be lovely well and healed. The drawback to having your tongue pierced is that it WILL DAMAGE YOUR TEETH. You can even observe that the highest and backside balls at the barbell will aggravate the roof of your mouth and beneath your tongue. I had mine for approximately 3 years after which it out of the blue began rather frustrating the roof of my mouth and beneath my tongue, so dangerous that i FINALLY simply took it out. Good Luck :)

I'm 15 and have my cartalige pierced. It doesn't hurt at ALL! I think 13 is a old enough age to get it done. That is when I got mine done.

i think she's old enough! i had my cartlige pierced around that age to and i'm now 27 and still loving it!
it will be sore a lot longer then your lower lobe.
it's not expensive at all b/c my mom (when i was 13) was not going to pay a lot either! you can have it done professionaly at a store like claire's boutique or some other store (not one of those here today gone tomorrow booths) just make sure it's professional. also you can make her go half on it to teach her responsibility maybe she would appreciate it even more!
let us know what you decide!

Well I'm 13 years old and I have my upper cartalige pierced. I like it alot, and I'm more of the 'Anti-Pain' type person, so it didnt hurt much, but others were complaning on the massive amount of pain they recieve. If you allow her to get it done I suggest that she get it done on the ear that she dosnt sleep on, that way she wont have trouble durring nights. It takes a while to heal but its worth it.
Good luck!

Stick to your guns. If you don't think she should do it, then say no. If you don't think it's that big of a deal, then let her do it, or tell her she can do it when she turns x years old. You're the mom! Good luck.
By the way, appearance-wise I don't think there's anything wrong with it... it's not like she's trying to pierce her face. However, cartilage has a tendency to get nasty infections, so your daughter needs to be responsible enough to follow the cleaning instructions TO THE LETTER. Good luck!

You know your daughter better than anyone else. If you feel she is not able to care for and clean the piercing than she shouldn't get it. Also, your permission will be needed to let her get it, so sit down with her and talk about it. If it gets infected are you willing to be the one dishing out money for antibiotics and trips to the doctor? Are you willing to pay the money for her to potentially change her mind and waste $20-$50 bucks? You shouldn't have to nag her to clean the piercing and take care of it. And if you feel you will be doing that, wait.
Cartilage piercings will take up to a year to fully heal, during that time, your daughter has to understand she needs to clean the piercing twice daily and take care of it. Its a wound. She cannot remove the jewelry during the healing period either.
I would talk with her and a professional piercer (since the workers at Claire's know NOTHING about piercing) and weigh out your options. In my opinion, as a professional piercer, I think she's able to handle it. Good luck to you and her.

I know the place where I get my piercings has an age requirement of fifteen to get a cartilage piercing. Doesn't matter if your mom is with you or not. Have to be fifteen.
You just have to be careful with kids that age. They tend to do it themselves. If you do decide to let her do it, this piercing should not be done with a gun. They're tons of work to heal, and gun piercings are harder than needle piercings anyway. This is going to be about a year to heal, and they're pretty uncomfortable. Of all my 14 piercings, my rook has been the most difficult to heal.

I think you should wait for another year or so to see if this is really what she wants because it is a lot of responsisbility no matter have funny it sounds....someone i know was screaming like crazy because it hurt and she hadnt taken proper care.Make sure she does not want it just because everyone else does because later she might regret.
But if you think she is ready and she can take care of it......well then so be it....let her get it pierced.
