First, what does your local government say about Segways? Some embrace them, others consider them a menace to be banned from the sidewalk.

Second, does your commute lend itself to a Segway? Can you use it on your route while also being considerate to pedestrians? Are you going to be pushed into automotive traffic?

Third is there a place to park (and ideally, charge) your Segway at your destinations? It's much healthier for the battery to charge it whenever possible.

If the Segway doesn't work, you might consider a "neighborhood electric vehicle" like a GEM or Think, halfway between a golf cart and a car.
