The name of the square where is the fountain (Piazza di Trevi) has origin from the name of the fountain and not the contrary as I read in the previous answer:The origin of the name of the Trevi fountain is because the fountain is located at the juncture of three roads (in Italian "tre vie" and hence the contraction into "trevi").
Trevi is also a small city of Italy (not so close to Rome,it's located in a different region) but it has nothing to do with the name of the fountain.
