I recently went through a nasty divorce and had to pay a lot to my ex husband AND got to keep all the credit card debt. I have been unable to make payments on 1 card, they are willing to settle, and I need to take this oppurtunity. Other than that card, my credit is/was excellent. Is there any way I can try to get them to not report it as "settled"?

Unfortunatley not, you can always ask prior to the agreement, but sounds if you've already settled.

Re: above statement about claiming your debt, she is right on you have to show the amount not paid as income i.e your debt was 5k they settle for 3k you have to add 2k to your income for the year..... Sorry for the bad news

if you have paid it all in full then you might need to call the company and tell them to put on your credit that it is paid.
