Generally the only reason why a long-existing wart/mole would change is due to cancerous or pre-cancerous growth.
Questions to ask: is this is a sun-exposed area? Are the edges sharply delineated? Does it have a regular border? Does it have regular (even, not blotchy) pigmentation? Do you have a family history of skin cancer?
If you even THINK yes to one of these questions, go see a doctor. DON'T HESITATE on this one. If caught in the early stages, melanoma is easily cured by taking out the affected area. If you wait to long, the cancer will spread and the prognosis will become much worse.
And always remember: better safe than sorry.

If a mole changes in color or size or if it get a dark ring around it, get ure butt to a doct. quick and get it removed an biopsied. Skin cancer is a very bad cancer and it moves very quickly. Don't play around with this.

it's not going to spread from what i've heard of it, it only occurs at of near the bottom of the "head" and you can't give it to other people. only way i've heard to get rid of it is a CO2 laser.
