I'm a little younger than your Grandpa, but I just went through treatment for prostate cancer. Prostate cancer is found by Urologists and they are surgeons, so almost always recommend surgery. I chose radiation because the side effects are much less severe and the treatment I had has a much higher cure rate than surgery. I've pasted a link to the Dattoli Cancer Center when I went below. If you email them they will send a DVD on what they have to offer. There are actually three methods of treatment. 1. Surgery 2 Radiation and 3 Freezing As you mentioned there are several forms of radiation, but where I went they gave me medication to stop it from spreading and to shrink my prostate, then did external radiation for 25 weekdays, waited a month and implanted radioactive seeds, waited three months and did 8 more external radiation treatments. Freezing is new and has bad side effects and an unknown cure rate. I would say it's only an option if for some reason the first method used didn't work. If you chose me as the best answer post your Yahoo IM and I can provide more info. But also, if you contact the Dattoli Cancer Center they will help you talk to someone who has been treated there. Good Luck and your Grandpa is in my prayers.

Only his doctor can tell you what is the best treatment for his cancer, as there are many factors involved, and everyone is different.

I know someone who had it in both lobes of the prostate. He had a hormone shot that lasted 4 months---that was to try to shrink the cancer. Then he had radiation, and a couple of months later, he had the seed implants. That was a year ago. So far he is doing fine.

No one on here can tell you what is best for your grandpa. He needs to discuss it fully with his oncologist. And what can you do? Just be supportive and love him a lot! Good luck to him, and you, too.

Your doctor should be able to answer your questions about the many options available. You may also want to read How to Prevent and Treat Cancer With Natural Medicine by Mike Murray for info and advice on how to deal with the side effects and problems that may occur with cancer therapies. It is an excellent book written by a professional.
Good luck!
