Ive thought that i can sing all my life but never had the guts to sing in front of my friends. Anyhow i met a wonderful man recently and i don't seem to have any inhibitions with him so i thought i would impress him with my birdlike vocals! Turns out i can't sing, but do you know what i don't care cos i love to sing and i will continue!!! record yourself or ask a really greta friend to be honest!!

Well I'm still not very confident with my voice so the first thing I did was ask help from my chorus teacher(or a singing tutor). Then after both she and I felt like my voice has improved I asked to do the solo on my school chorus, that was a giant leap for me. This way it got me singing in front of my peers and my confidence grew. I you don't want to do this you can try sing out in chorus class. if you teacher hears you and your hitting the pitches then your bound to get a compliment. If not I'll give you one! I think you'll do great. It's not as hard as it seems to take a leap, but you'll never know till you try.

My suggestion would be to find a voice teacher, and if singing is what you want to do then don't give up, even if the voice teacher says you're aweful! lol! Seriously, it sounds strange. Most people think singing is eihter something you have or don't have, but you'd be surprised what a little bit of training can do. My Mother is a voice teacher and a member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS). She's had some students who came to her practically tone deaf. They couldn't carry a tune in a bucket, but with practice and determination, they got pretty good! One of them sings regularly at her church now and is often asked to perform solos and everything. So find a good teacher and don't give up!
Also, a group voice class at your area college could be of assistance. M'OST of the students in the beginning voice classes don't want to sing or don't think they can or know if they can. A Simple class can teach you A LOT! (They also often do before and after recordings so you can see the improvement for yourself.)

hey, I had the same dilema! I recorded my self singing to my favorite song then when the song was over, I played the tape back and later on in life, I had gotten singing lessons from a buddy of mine and i'm about to start a demo cd if I can get a band together! I started singing at the age of four and im now 17! Just do what you think you would do, to become a singer! My dream is to be a singer, you can be too! If you have any other questions or comments about what I told you, email me at: samanthahoward2@yahoo.com

well singing well is not something that you get right away. You just have to be patience, and practice a lot! A good way to start is to do exercises. There are many different types of singing exercises like breathing, to relaxing your muscles. You can go on googles.com and type in "breathing exercises for singing." If you want to sing a high note, and you can't, DONT FORCE IT!!! singing is patience and i had been taking singing classes for many years and still cannot manage some of these high notes.
If you want to be confident enough on stage, you should first practice alot in front of the mirror and recording yourself. the second thing is after you think you practiced enough, go ask someone that you know you can trust and wont make fun of you if you make a mistake, and perform it. or you can also sing in a choir, so you get used to performing, and when you are ready to come out and show your talent, sing it to the world!!! SOLO! the first time i sang in front of audiences, i was shaking. my knee kept on shaking, back and forth back and forth and i couldnt control it! so dont be shocked that your first performance might make you nervous. just imagine that you are in control and you literally are, you ooooo and ahhhhh the audiences. you make them excited or disappointed.
JUST PRACTICE A LOT AND ALOT! you will get the hang of it one day!
thats all i can say,,
take care and hope you do well

First - go to a good teacher for an evaluation of your voice. People tell me - Oh, I can't sing. My answer always is - Really? How long have you studied? If you haven't studied, you don't know what you can do.
Second - singing is one thing. Singing in front of other people is something else entirely. It's possible to sing for the love of singing without ever doing it in public. And certainly there are lots of people who DO sing in public who can't really sing, but it doesn't seem to stop them one little bit.
How to improve your voice? What's wrong with it? Go to a good teacher and get an evaluation and then you can go from there.

Stagefright hard to overcome and it does not matter anymore if you are the worlds greatest singer because people that can barely hold a note are selling millions of records it is all about the confidence. Don't ask your friends some of them will lie so that they do not hurt your feelings. And the only way to get over stage fright is to just sing. Because that is a fear you have to jump head first in and conquer.

why don't you try singing in front of your friends and ask them for their opinions? i don't know whether this will work because i've never tried this myself but listen to a song- say a favourite song you love listening to a couple of times, familiarise yourself with the harmonies, the vocals, remembering the lyrics, the music and the way the singer sings the song. and as you do this, sing-a-long to it and in tune if you can. the more times you practice doing this, the better your singing voice will get. and do this in front of a mirror and as some people would do hold a hair brush!

two options:
1 - sing in front of people you'll know you'll get a good receptions from, like relatives and friends. Their positive response will encourage you.
2 - Sing in a town you wouldn't normally go to, then you want have to face anyone in the audience next day if it all goes horribly wrong!

Now a days anyone can sing. What you should ask yourself is in what genre does your voice sound it's best. Than work from there.
