My puppy will be a year on Christmas Eve and recently she's been going to certain spots of carpet and will dig at it and it the pieces that come off. Does this mean there is something wrong with her? How do I stop her (I've tried Nature's Miracle wich is suppose to stop this behavior but she loves the flavor of the product)?

How do I stop her (I've tried Nature's Miracle wich is suppose to stop this behavior but she loves the flavor of the product)? I've tried spraying her with water and she just tries to drink it. I crate her at night but I am a stay at home mom and let her loose during the day. She does this act whenever I'm not looking at her.

You just have to put the kittens into a 'room' (with a litter box, toys, and food and water available) and close the door on them while you eat. After they are about 8-10 months old, you may let them out while you eat, but put them back into the room and close the door AS SOON as they jump onto your lap or the table. Evenutally they'll learn that your plate is not there for them to 'browse from' and you'll have no problem. In fact, you have that problem because the owners of the mom cat didn't train her own cat properly ... I had six cats (I had four kids and a man, and we EACH had a cat) and two dogs ... they were all 'well trained' to sit 'outside the dining room' and not come in until I got up from the table and brought the coffee pot in at the end of the meal. Then they were allowed to 'approach' the table, but still had to 'sit quietly' beside their person, and not 'beg' unless the person offered them some food. Even then, they had to do a 'trick' before we'd feed them ... and yes, they were all perfect, and so were my kids and their own table manners ... but we had 'fun' during our meals, and didn't have a 'military meal' or life.

Is there a pipe under the floor there? Maybe she hears the sound and wants to get at it? Or she is bored and need to entertain her mind more. Try taking her for a walk (45min at least) in the morning, good for her and you. Keep her in a good position beside you, not ahead. If your children are old enough have them get into it with you and do a training session after the walk. Sit stay, and here & down- the like. Its hard to watch her all the time but when you catch her give a sharp whisel and redirect her attention elsewhere. Good luck.

It might sound a little mean, but try sprinkiling a little bit of white pepper on her favorite spots. You might hear some sneezing for a bit but it won't do harm to your puppy and it has worked with no ill affects for 3 of my dogs. Nothing is wrong with her, she is just doing what puppies do. Sometimes they can suffer from seperation anxiety if you are gone alot and will chew more. You could always try crating her too.

My dog did the same thing, unfortunately. And, also loved the bitter apple taste.

I'd try and reprimand your dog whenever you see her doing it, and praise her when she stops. Its not feasible to go around spraying the carpet, anyway, with bitter apple.

She'll eventually stop, but you'll just need to be patient -- part of puppy parenthood.

MY BEST ADVISE FOR YOU ON STOPPING YOUR PUP FROM DIGING IN YOUR CARPET OR ANYTHING ELSE WOULD BE TO GET A PEICE OF MEWSPAPER AND ROLL IT UP AND EVERYTIME YOUR PUP DOES SOMETHING THAT ITS NOT SUPPOSE TO SMACK IT WITH THE NEWSPAPER,DONT KILL HIM OR ANYTHING LIKE THAT JUST TAP HER,SHE WILL LEARN WHEN DOING SOMETHING WRONG BUT YOU HAVE TO REINFORCE IT ONCE YOU START IT DONT GIVE UP AND YOULL SEE IT WILL WORK.

I don't smack on the nose, that is a sensitive area for a dog. I just say NO with ONE (only one) swat on the behind.

The pepper idea works good, or when she does it spray "mist" her with some water. That always calmed mine down.
