Hi,

When a house or other building is prepared for sale, from new or if it is second hand, it is believed that the colour of the decoration may adversely affect the prospective purchaser. Therefore it is common practice to paint the building in a neutral colour and usually white is a good choice. Furthermore for the contractor there is a saving, he does not need to have several different colours all of which must be carted around to site nor are different brushes and rollers needed for the different colours.

Colours have an effect on the subjective appearance of a room and white always makes the room seem bigger and brighter, again enhancing sale prospects. Hope that helps PP

The truth is that its never really white, chauk-white or even off-white. Its very easy to cover up if you have to spot paint here and there without having to do the entire wall, white can be matched up easily.

This most likely happen in the early years cause it was the most common colors in paint and simply the white transfers to what we consider with cleanliness or sanitary, such as in hospital and resturants and so on.

Its also the cheapest color of paint, all others require more combination of different colors and developed formulas of this and that.

I think it is because a color says everything. If a person went into a apartment and it had like yellow or green paint on the walls it might turn them off to the apartment. But with white it looks cleaner and it is brighter and plus you can just paint over it.
