Get yourself a current copy of Hodges' Harbrace College Handbook. Go to library and read some Writer's Digest magazines. Then ask the librarian for books on fiction writing.

You might first try a book about grammar and spelling. No book can tell you ideas about which to write. That comes from your own life experiences that you weave into fiction (or non-fiction). No book can teach you HOW to write. You can or you can't. That simple.

just read a little of everything. if you're looking for inspiration, don't just get it all from one author or genre. kurt vonnegut jr is really good-read everything he ever wrote. the last fiction book i read was 'catcher in the rye' last summer. it was good and the writing style was a little like the main character: kinda crazy. to develop your writing skills, you'll need to do it like you would with any other skill- practice, practice, practice... like i would know-i've never published anything!
