I am going through the roughest time of my life. I am in a relationship that is strained due to the fact that me and her are of different races (I'm Persian, she is Armenian). Her parents don't approve that I'm of a different race and they keep harrassing her about it. We are both 24 year old university students. I already suffer from depression. I've asked her to marry me and she has said yes, but the parents don't know yet. They don't even want to hear of me only because I'm not Armenian. The uncertainty of this relationship as well as other family problems has taken a toll on me to the point that my progress at the university has droped. I am being dismissed from school unti the fall of 2007. I am going to tell her, but I worry that she will leave me because I'm being dismissed. I'm probably worrying over nothing again, but what is your input on this? Would you drop someone you love if they were in my position.

You guys should talk it out, her parents have absolutly noooooo control over your lives together somehow explain to her that it might be rough in the beginning but they will come to accept it in some fashion also you have to tell her about your schooling she needs to know...but if she loves you she will know that all of the stress is adding strain to you...cheer up all will work out in some way muchos love and good luck

The T - I wish you would not have pulled your other question. I had to hunt you up to send you my answer! So, here it is again...

When parents or other family members don't approve, then you may face a lifetime of friction. Is this what you want with your potential in-laws?

You're going to have to go out on the limb and prove that you are beyond their stereotype impression of people of your race. You're going to have to show ambition, goals, maturity, intelligence, and a deeper love expressed than what typically is called for in a boyfriend.

My beau is very open with his love for me to all of my family members, and has even cracked the hard shell of my father. I mean my dad is a bully and has never to my memory ever told my brothers that he loves them (and he does), but with my beau, because Patrick is so open and trusting, and tells my dad that he loves him, too, that my dad actually reciprocates!

So you need to work much harder than the average guy who would be dating a gal like your gf. You've got to show that you are better than ANY guy who comes calling. And just an added note, I shall say here also - share that spiritual bond with her too, and attend the same Church, Mosque, Synagog or Temple together. Be a godly man to her. God never says no to mixed marriages, so long as you are equal when it comes to the mind, soul and spirit.

God Bless you on your future trials to win this special gal.

well my parents do not like me going out with another race earthier, and i know where you are coming from, and i am white and flip and they tell me you are just white, like there is nothing else in me, so i think that it is wrong for people to hate against other people cause where they come from, and the funny thing is most of them believe in the bible and still dislike other people, everyone needs at least one chance..and your doing good with your life, at least you are doing things and your not some drug head on the street trying to marry there daughter, but i would say go for it one say they will learn to love you! or at last like you,
