Best question today. This is reason #73 on my Reasons-I-Don't-Believe-In-God list....yes, I actually have a list.
Edit: Saiyoko, I would love you to see it too, there are pretty good reasons, too bad it's too long to post here and it wouldn't actually be a "question".

Genesis 11 is bout the tower of babel, not the killing of innocent children..
2 Kings- is a very good depiction of love. You have twisted that scripture. See Elisha was a prophet and loved by God. And nobody makes fun or hurt a child of God without punishment eventually coming. Those children were justly judged.
God has that same promise for you, that your enemies will be put under your feet, what an awesome promise..
Why do you find a few things to not love God yet you ignore the thousands of resons to love Him/

okay so i think you got you facts a little wrong. Gen 11:4-5 says nothing about children it is the building of the tower of babel by non-worshipers of God. 2 kings 2:24 the 42 children killed were not innocent they mocked God's prophet Elisha. Because they despised God's prophet who represents God it was as if the insulted God himself. On the other hand God spoke out against the pegan nations in Duetromny 18:9-13 who were burning the children as a sacriface to pegan gods. God really is loving sometimes we just have to do a bit of research to see why something that seems unjust is actually just.

Ofcourse God is loving. This doesn't mean that every single thing he does seems loving though. If I said someone was loving it doesn't mean that they've never done anything that seemed unloving. Maybe he killed the children out of love, who knows. Christians don't expect to understand everything God does, so why do non-Christians?
And as for 'is this a God worth loving', maybe you should think about that. It isn't something to ask on Yahoo really. I'm guessing that you haven't been saved by Jesus, in which case you would go to Hell if you died. If you consider wiping your sins clean and achieving eternal salavation 'worth' loving God then the answer is yes.

I'm not sure what Bible you are using...
Genesis 11:4-5 makes no mention of slaughtered children.
2 Kings 2:24 describes a situation where the children killed were anything BUT innocent. They were mockers and haters of the man God used to bring His word to the people.
The Bible would call these children "wicked", and this is not only a judgment upon the children, but upon their parents also for failing to teach children respect for their fellow man.
Rebellious children are the lawbreaking children of lawbreaking parents.

Genesis 11 is the story of the Tower of Babel and has no discussion of any killing
2 Kings 2:24 - object lesson - don't mock a prophet and therefore God, especially after a miracle has just been performed for your benefit.

Yes, God is also a God of Justice....evil doing is punished.
The 2 kings reference is about 42 children that were making fun of Elisha's bald head (I think...sorry I don't have my Bible with me)....he cursed them and 2 bears came and killed 42 children......it is wrong and evil hearted to tease and make fun of people, bald, short, fat, old ......whatever and it was
God's judgement that they be killed....I don't have a problem with that....I FULLY TRUST THE JUDGEMENT OF GOD. and also make a point not to tease anyone about being bald.

I have read the bible and
I do not believe that the god of the old testament is the real god.
There is a real god/creator that is waiting for us to come home, and to get home you must choose love/fellowship/empathy in all that you do. at judgement the love must outweigh the dominion to get back to father.

You twist Scripture around just like Satan. Clearly you have not read Genesis 11:4-5
Gen 11:4-5
4 And they said, "Come, let us build ourselves a city, and a tower whose top is in the heavens; let us make a name for ourselves, lest we be scattered abroad over the face of the whole earth."
5 But the LORD came down to see the city and the tower which the sons of men had built

Yes God is love. But he is also just and supreme. You can argue with us all you want but you cannot argue with God. And yes, He is definitely worth loving.
This is Genesis 11:4-5. There are no children dying here.
Then they said, "Come, let us build ourselves a city, with a tower that reaches to the heavens, so that we may make a name for ourselves and not be scattered over the face of the whole earth." But the LORD came down to see the city and the tower that the men were building.

I'd say no, thats not a loving god. Its not something that can be dismissed. He murdered children. He didn't choose to kill the adults who were the ones doing the wrong, he murdered children instead.
That's not punishment. Thats sadistic.
Hmm, I'm with the first poster. I'll add that to my list on reasons not to believe in the Christian god. It just gets worse all the time, not better.
Gladiator, when Christians learn to stop trying to force their religion into secular life for EVERYONE, then Atheists will stop fighting, until then, they aren't going to shut up just because you don't like what they say.
