You will need to wash your hair in something very harsh, such as Prell shampoo, or Tide detergent. Do this a few times, it will lighten it up, then you can color your hair over. I had to do this before, it does work.

This is what I would do.
1) First dye it a nice shade of brown.
2) Two weeks later go lighter brown.
3) A few days later, dye it a shade of blonde that comes close to your natural hair color.
Your hair will turn out looking great. Who knows, you might end up liking brown hair. It looks really pretty if you have the deeper shades, not mouse colored. Have you ever seen Jennifer Morrison's hair? It looks great.

LOL In a previous post, the answerer said Prell shampoo will strip it... she's right! Other bad Super-Stripping shampoos you could use are Flex, Suave or Herbal Essences. Those brands have a similar chemical strutcure to dishwashing detergent!
Best to go to a professional for a proper colour correction. He/She can take care of any off-tones that will come out when you strip that black tint out. I've found that as black dyes fade, they have terrible green-ash undertones and make your hair look dry and chalky.

Bleach is the only way, really, to get the black out. You could use a brown dye that contains peroxide, you'll need to leave it in for a long time though. And get a dye that's about 2 shades lighter than what you are aiming for.

It helps to wash it with a strong shampoo, like Prell. The more you wash it the quicker it will fade. Personally, I would have a Professional dye it. There are too many things that can go wrong.

add magnets to your hair, stand next to a refridgerator for 24 hours, remove magnets and use clorox bleach as dye remover.
Note:only use 1 teaspon per 10 parts warm water, rinse. black will be gone.
If this does not work, wear a wig.

Start with dark brown, after a month go to lighter brown ect. until you find a color you like,if that doesn't sound good then get a medium dark brown highlights not blonde that would be tacky! you would have to get them all over which will make your hair seem a lot lighter...Good Luck

if you wash it out, the color should eventually fade. Because i dyed my hair black and i'm a natural blonde/brown and i wash my hair everyday.

I had this same problem...best thing to do is Strip your hair...or bleach it....if you bleach you'll be left with no color and can easily achieve a brown color...i would recommend brown with copper highlights it will add more definition.
