It seems as though every time I drink milk or have ice cream, I proceed to go into a coughing fit that hurts not only my throat but my chest and I feel as though I can't breathe. Now I'm 20 years old and this only began happening within the last 6 months to a year - it is not something I have experienced all my life and I want to know why it is happening now. I can't seem to find any info about this happening - at least not outside of the milk inducing mucus theory and the whole mucus thing just doesn't apply to me. It ould be great if anyone who has any legitimate information and not just opinions about such occurrences and if you can refer me to any websites that would very much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

You are drinking it too fast. Slow down and enjoy it.

In the first place we build up tolerances to allergies as we age. this doesn't mean we have to be born with them. Most older people get allergies as they age due to the aging process, your no different.
Your becoming dextrose tolerant. The milk, ice cream etc, are building up mucus in your throat due to becoming dextrose tolerant.
Make an appoint with your allergist and take some tests, he'll give you some advice. I've lived without milk all my life and I don't miss it.

Must admit that I don't know much about medical stuff. But your question reminded me of what I read some time ago, i.e. that milk is not good food for adult humans. Cow's milk is for baby cows.

seems to me that u might have an allegic reaction..allergies can pop up anytime on people..like me..I was never allergic to anything but a few months ago I started getting rashes under my arms..and the doctor said that I'm allergic to deodorant..but at all costs..I would stop consuming dairy products and ask ur doctor..
