"Should people cheat God? Yet you have cheated me! "But you ask, 'What do you mean? When did we ever cheat you?' "You have cheated me of the tithes and offerings due to me. You are under a curse, for your whole nation has been cheating me. Bring all the tithes into the storehouse so there will be enough food in my Temple. If you do," says the LORD Almighty, "I will open the windows of heaven for you. I will pour out a blessing so great you won't have enough room to take it in! Try it! Let me prove it to you! Your crops will be abundant, for I will guard them from insects and disease. Your grapes will not shrivel before they are ripe," says the LORD Almighty. (Malachi 3:8-11 NLT)

The point of this, God is over everything, even the money you have. You are asked to tithe 10% and give it back to further his ministry. If you don't ("Should people cheat God?") you are robbing yourself of his blessing that he will bestow upon you in abundance.

The interpretation of the Scripture is that God wants us to develop a giving heart. God created everything and he owns everything. There are plenty of people who tithe, but their hearts are not with Christ. the whole point of the Scripture is for people to get their hearts right with God. As Paul says, be a cheerful giver. Do not give grudgingly and do not hoard wealth to your own hurt. What God gives you for today is sufficient enough.

Today's preachers say that that "storehouse" is the local church, but I haven't always been sure about that. I think it could be a needy person who shows up on your doorstep, or any other way that the Holy Spirit directs us to give. But, yes. It's true.

It's not that b/c you give money it's b/c we're obedient to His word. Obedience to God equals blessings. God told Joshua that, "This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. "

How can you give God what is already His?
The idea is that He gave us enough to take care of all of our concerns and His, and we've squandered it selfishly. When we truly love one another, taking care of each other and showing proper respect for Him and his, then we do truly know blessings.
Try it out sometime. You'll never be the same, and you won't mind one bit.

God doesn't need money
but if you give money away you can get a blessing
but if you give it away for the purpose of getting a blessing you won't get a blessing.

God honors a heart that is sacrificial. He doesn't need anyone's money, but he also wants you to realize you don't need it either.
Trust in God or trust in money? You make the call
