Only if the supplier sold a stolen handgun or sold it to somebody who has no right to own a firearm (such as a felon or somebody under 18).
Suing the manufacturer of a firearm makes about as much sense as suing an automaker if the car was used in an illegal manner.

There should definitely be more punishment for the suppliers of illegal firearms. But the user should also be held accountable for their actions.

For illegal firearms, certainly...just like with drugs. You take out the bulk suppliers and the little guys have nothing to push.
I respectfully submit, however, that my (legal) handguns have killed less people than Laura Bush's automobile.

I think anyone using a firearm illegally should be responsible for their actions.
Just a note... the second ammendment wasn't designed for people to hunt and sport...It was designed, so that the people would have the power and not a governing authority (tyranny).
Also, 80% of homocides are done by handguns and 90% of those handguns are cheap saturday night specials... .22,.25, .32, .380 cal. and 9mm.
