I have read the verses in Quran that prohibits alcohol. For the same reason, shouldn't tobacco be prohibited? I have been to a couple of Muslim countries, and I was shocked to see everyone from kids to the elderly smoking....

No tobacco is a product of the New World people didn't have tobacco to smoke when the Koran was written. xx

Obviously those weren't Muslim countries. The only two real Muslim countries are Saudi Arabia and Turkey. Everyone else just says they are. Anyway no fatwas against smoking tabacco. However due to the fact that smoking is harmful to your health, body and mind then it is haraam(forbidden) and is therefore not allowed.

Of course there are fatwas against smoking tobacco. There are fatwas against playing chess, and all kinds of things. Sharia law and its interpretations are nearly endless.

yes there is fatwas against smoking but in the same time it is multimillion $$$ business so business prevailed. Also there is fatwa against drinking Coffee and during Ottoman empire coffee shops were baned but later they allowed it.

can't have anything with alcohol due to medical condition not even cold medicine and the only time I smoke is if I'm in a Ceremony conducted by The People.

Alcohol makes you drunk and takes your conscious from you thats why its not allowed but tobacco is not like that so its not forbidden but not recommended coz it harms your lungs.

any thing that is addictive in nature and injurious to health is prohibited in Islam.
