I just adopted a female Kitten on Sunday. She was already spayed (surgery on 11/27/06). I noticed when I was looking at her belly (and gently petting it) that there is a small, hard, round mass under her stiches. When I got her, they told me to check her stiches every day to make sure that the incision did not open, but they never told me to check for a "hard mass." I just wanted to know if this is ok. Also, I hardly see her eating and she only pees about twice a day. Is this normal? She is a very sweet, playful, cuddly kitten and I am already in love with her! Thank you!

A kitten has an amazing ability to heal. When you go for your follow up visit I would ask the vet to check out the site. Chances are that it is just the internal stitches and scab. But, you can never be too careful.
Also, your baby might be just eating and peeing when you're not around. It only takes a few seconds to do either one. She's probably not too hungry because she is still recovering from the surgery.
As long as she is playful and her fur isn't dirty/dull looking I'd say she is still healthy!
Good luck!

When some people have surgeries or stitches they can develop keloid scarring at the incision site. That is probably what the masses are. Call the vet or shelter where she was spayed and ask your question.
Peeing twice a day is about average. Kittens really should have canned meat for their diet as opposed to dry food. If you can locate some Wellness or Natural Balance canned food she may want to eat more often. Go to www.ThePetCenter.com, click on the articles list and under "Nutrition Related" there are a number of articles on feeding cats and kittens. Use that information in selecting a good canned food for her. The more moisture she has in her food the better her kidneys will do their job.

It doesn't sound too serious but best get the vet to have a look if you are worried. Peeing twice a day is ok and remember if she is a kitten she only has a little belly. Also she will need a bit of time to get used to her new envirnoment. Unless she shows some other signs of illness I wouldn't worry too much.

My kitty's skin had some scaring under her stitches, but not a hard mass really. If you just got her she might need a few weeks to get really use to things and start eating more, but keep an eye on her she sounds like a sweety!

The peeing is normal. Call the place you got her and ask about the hard mass. It could be nothing, better safe than sorry. maybe she doesn't like the food. Kittens can be picky until you find something they really like. Mine own't eat any seafood. Go figure. Good luck!

When they spay, they don't just have to cut the skin, they have to cut the muscles underneath the skin. This can make for some scar tissue that you can feel through the skin.
It wouldn't be a bad idea to have it checked. It would be unusual, but sometimes the stitches inside can come apart and they can get a small hernia. Get it checked. Better safe than sorry.

Scar tissue. It will subside as she grows and will not be like that forever.
Is it at the location of the stitch. If it is at the exact site of the stitch run her to the vet or to the rescue to have them taken out. Its been ten days and should be healed enough to take them out.

this is most likely to be a seroma (fluid filled mass), this is a common reaction after being spayed. if is a seroma it will need draining, poss antibiotics and an anti informatory. the cat will be fine. it could also be a reaction to the suture material which is also common.
get her checked
