We have almost 2 feet of snow on the ground and after about 5 days my Astrailian Shepherd who is 5 months old has decided that his 'dog business' is some what interesting to eat. He has never done anything like this and it was my thinking that being that it is flash frozen so to speek he finds it different from regular 'dog business' that he usually leaves in the yard. I pick it all up all the time, so he has never had to really confront it much. I do so now, but when I do not he often messes with it. Does my frozen theory sound plazable?

Poopsicles!

What you're describing is quite common behavior.

It is common, as stated before. But it's not the best thing in the whole world lol. Try picking up after him as fast as you can. If you see him going near it to sniff it and later gulp it down, scold him, tell him NO. He should eventually learn to stay away from him. My dog doesn't eat her poo anymore (she did when she was a teeny puppy), but she DOES thoroughly enjoy cat poop from the neighbor's gray cat. It's her favorite after dinner treat, and just about the most disgusting thing ever. Lol. I can't get her to stop with that. Good luck! :o)

Who knows what is plausible for a dog. But eating his own or other poop is not healthy for your dog. You can buy something at a pet store that you add to your dogs food so he won't eat his poop. Strangely it makes it non-appetizing! Of course I don't know why some dogs find poop appetizing in the first place!! I have heard that meat tenderizer sprinkled on the poop will deter a dog, but I don't know if that works. Check with your vet, they will know the name of the powder to use, or ask at a pet store and they will tell you.

It is not uncommon. Dogs, particularly puppies, will nibble on and sometimes eat their "leftovers". Hamsters will also do this, as a way to regain nutrients that they did not get. It's not the most pleasant thing in the world, but unless he shows signs of eating something toxic to him, he should be fine.

P.S. My family LOVES Aussies. :)

It happens with snow or not. One of my dogs still does it occasionally. They eat it because there is food left in it because it hasnt been fully processed. Just dont ask for any kisses.

i have an aussy pup too, 6 months old. she hasnt seen snow yet, but when sees poop she likes to munch on it anyways (gross). i'm thinking its easier to see against the snow so its something to go investigate (and eat).

one more thing to look forward to with my pup in the next few months! lol
