here is what to do. remove the air filter box, once you have it removed then remove the intake pipe that runs behind the battery
it is held in with 1 10mm bolt. once you have the pipe removed look in the end and you will see a screen that is most likely plugged solid with dirt and dust. remove this screen by cutting it out then put the whole thing back together. most likely this will fix your car because when the snow screen gets plugged up the car sucks alot of air from the breather system and it will actually suck oil from the engine. this is a very common problem and i have fixed many cars with the same symptoms as your just by removing the snow screen.
good luck and i hope this help you.

that isn't bad but change the oil pressure sending unit, its the first place to leak most of the time. but change your oil every 3000 mi and don't wait for it to get 1 quart low, that is 25% of your oil capacity. that is alot

Actually, I saw something about this a year or two ago. It seemed at the time that VW thought it was normal. You might check with them, or look for a service bulletin on it.
Good luck.

does the engine look oily or drip on the floor? coz on some VW engines the breather can block and pressurise the rocker cover, could be very cheap to fix if thats the prob.

CHECK FOR LEAKS, GET THEM FIXED IF IT IS LEAKING, OTHERWISE, CHECK IF THE THING IS SMOKING UNDER ACCELERATION, IF SO TAKE IT TO A SHOP
