Obsessing can always make things worse and what works for one doesn't always work for another. The treatment is trial and error and you need to decide what works for you individually. I don't believe there is any specific tests to determine chemical imbalances I believe they diagnose determined on your symptoms. Hang in there, I know its really hard sometimes but the answers are within U. I listen to lots of self-help and inspirational books on CDs and tapes and watch lots of movies about people who have mental illnesses to help me cope. Remember Knowledge is Power.

'I have tackled with all those disorders on my own. Meds always made me feel worse and in your case, three years is a long time not to be feeling better. I saw a therapist for a while and he gave me ways to help me deal with my disorders. I read alot on the subject and everything put together sort of helps me deal with situations alot better. You are the only one who can help yourself. This chemical imbalance is there to stay, so learn to deal with things in differant ways and work at it. Things do get better, but get rid of those meds that don't seem to be working at all. Good Luck.

My boyfriend had the same problem. He had to go through a lot of different medications until he found something that worked for him. Some meds actually made it worse. I would try to get on something else, maybe go see a councelor if you feel you need to so that they can give you some tools on stress reduction if that helps. Good luck!

I always thought that people on these medications HAD to have a bloodtest first to determine how much medication would be needed to suit the chemical imbalance. You should see a different doctor.

Well, it's a known fact that therapy and meds work together. Since you have been on the same meds for three years, it may be time to change them or increase the dose. Best thing is to talk to your doctor about your symptoms.

If you weren't happy with your therapist, then find another one because you HAVE to do it. Meds won't fix it or make it go away--you know that. If you don't deal with the problems you have that are causing the panic, anxiety and depression....of COURSE it will only get worse.
You probably felt bad because it was bringing all these issues up and you have been trying really hard to push them down. Don't do it---go back to therapy.

Hubby has anxiety disorder that can mostly be attributed to an adrenaline overflow. Maybe they can test for that?
You really need to go to therapy. Maybe your med dr. can help you find a better one. And if you have insurance, a lot of them make you see a therapist too.

You should talk to you Doctor about some alternative treatment options. There are different types of depression and anxiety, so there are different types of treatment. Also making sure that you do some simple things like taking time for yourself and finding a comfortable group of people to talk to about your issues.
You may also want to consider a different therapist, that may make you feel more comfortable.
I hope you get better, best of luck!

In 2005 the New York Times said there's no way so far, to measure chemicals in a person's brain.
Medicine works anyway, maybe they just can't know how or can't prove their ideas for why it does.
