Pythagorean Theorem

In a right angled triangle, the square of the hypotenuse equals the sum of the square of the other two sides.

Therefore
9.850^2+8.650^2=171.845
171.845 rooted = 13.108966397

Your diagonal will be 13.11 Mtrs

Assuming the two sides are at right angles to each other, you could use Pythagorus' theorem.

You may have heard in rumour that for a right angled triangle,
"the square on the hypotenuse is equal to the sum of the squares on the other two sides"

That's mathsey shorthand for: Multiply the length by itself, multiply the width by itself, add these two together, take the square root to get the diagonal.
.._____________
\/ (L*L) + (W*W) = D

Not sure if this font does it justice, but I've tried to illustrate the wonky tick which is the symbol for square root.

Best of luck.

Yes. The formula is a^2 + b^2 = c^2, where a and b are the sides and c is the diagonal. this is called the Pythagorean Theorem.

use a casio calculator, press pol( then type in the length 9. 850mtrs
next type in a , followed by the width 8.65mtrs
finally type in a ) press equals to get the answer 13.1089664mtrs
the display should read pol(9.85,8.650)
there is a bonus, press rcl then tan to get one of the angles
or try 9.850 squared + 8.65 squared then square root

Easy enough by Pythagoras if you have a right-angle, but you don't actually say as much in your question.
Could you elaborate?
